Giving back - A quick, one word tweak that fired up my adwords success.

This post is in response to http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...eing-hall.html -- a rant about the one-line post-count increasers. I may have inadvertently been guilty of the one-line "thanks for posting that" posts. Because of that, I wanted to delurk and give back with a simple little tip that has helped me out.

I've been testing a fairly saturated niche, as such getting visitors from the beginning required some paid ads.

My experience with adwords has been less than stellar. I read and still recommend Perry Marshall's guide, but my implementations have been lacking.

Anyway, I was hesitant to get into adwords again without generating some economical traffic. The keywords that I wanted were expensive, but conversions would easily cover that. As a side benefit, I was able to drop the cost significantly since my CTR kept going up.

So, what one word boosted my CTR?

It was a name: Anna.

Instead of a headline like this: Want to lose 24 lbs?
I used something like this: Anna lost 24 lbs.
(these are not actual headlines, just examples)

You've probably seen swipe files that extol the advantages of a more personalized ad...I'm not making up anything. I'm just verifying that the implementation works and that I saw remarkable results for an expensive, saturated campaign. Hopefully someone can put this to use and verify their success. If nothing else, this is proof that studying swipe files and successful campaigns can only help you succeed.

As an aside, I chose a name that could *suggest* a female ethnic heritage...that was important for my niche. You'll have to experiment with this as well.

That's surely a great technique. I've used this in most of my promos, especially in forums, and it turn out to be great opening sentence for people to at least drop by and have a look at it.

Wow! That's amazing and brilliant. I've never even heard of this technique in any AdWords audio or eBook I've downloaded.

Thanks a bunch. Will try it out in the future =)

I've tried that with one of my campaigns, and it works great! Added a picture (public domain..) to my landing page, and it just worked better...
