How important are videos to an info product?

I have noticed that many info products these days have videos in them, yet many times (in my opinion) the videos are pointless. They are often just a slideshow with the person essentially reading the slides that are right there in front of you. And generally, it's just a really watered down version of the PDF. Some times, they will be camtasia videos and show you how to do some of the stuff in the course, which is definitely a step in the right direction, and could certainly be useful for people new to the techniques being discussed.

There are some products I've seen where the videos are the main part, and the PDF's are more of an outline of the videos, but that's not what I'm talking about here.

However, I have also heard that products with videos sell better, and sell for a lot more money, so I'm assuming this is why everyone includes them now.

I am making an info product right now, and I'm trying to decide if I should include videos or not. A lot of times, the videos that come with info products just seem like an afterthought - like they were made just for the purpose of being able to write "contains X number of videos" in the sales copy. When I get a product like this, I feel it reflects negatively on the person who made the product, and that's not something I ever want to do to my customers.

If I made videos, they would be:
Camtasia / slideshow style videos
Each "slide" would list the main points as bullets, and include a relevant graphic or supporting text. I would break down the information vocally into finer detail, and on the more complicated sections - do "over the shoulder" style demonstrations with Camtasia. They would not provide any information that is not already in the PDF, except for the step by step video demonstrations showing how to do some of the techniques.

Also, what are your thoughts regarding the relationship between price and having videos in the info product.

For example: if an info product was going to sell for $47 without videos, how much should it sell for if it had 2 hours of video included?

I published a stock trading course and sold it on Clickbank for four years before selling the site early this year. I began with a rather large PDF manual with supporting videos but moved entirely to video in a member only area of my website.

If your product gets legs and it's out in PDF format it will hit the torrent sites fast which will cost you a lot in lost profits.

I would consider making an all video course and stream it from AmazonS3 to save yourself bandwidth charges and also making it harder to copy and share.
