Make Firefox my default browser

I'm absolutely sick of IE and the problems it causes especially the newer version.

Cheers

      Hi Kymi,

If you go to options and 'main', at the bottom there's an option for "always check if firefox is the default browser"

Next to it is a button that says "check now" - CLICK THAT and it will say it isn't but do you want to make the default.

      Regards,
      Andy

Actually I prefer posts like this over the all too often "how I made a boat load of cash in 24 hours" stuff, without any real proof or help.

It's a simple question from a member that needs a simple answer. Not directly IM related, but it helps the person asking the question.

What would help is if the post title had the whole question so those not interested would not have to open it.

Kim did you mean, how do I do my marketing when I can't work out how to use firefox as my browser. I can't use IE for my marketing because my marketing ideas don't work.

lol I use FF but it's not my default. I just use it to check sites look ok etc

I've always stuck with IE because I'm of the opinion most people who use the internet use IE so I like to ensure I'm on top of what they see.

I've now decided to do it the other way round. IE8 is ridiculous. I'm all for security, but I can't use a lot of the tools I'm used to using because they just wont show in the browser

    Kim,

I just changed mine for the same reason.

Go to Start => Set Program Access and Defaults

There you will see to set your default browser.

    Thanks,

    John

PS If this needs to remain a marketing thread, send me $20 for the consult.

It can't possibly be more than the amount of times IE does the same for me lol

Then enjoy the fun of even more problems with FF....

By the way, make a text file of your favorites. FF has managed to "lose" my "bookmarks" twice now.

Enjoy that peaceful moment or ten as you wait for it to eventually load, then experience the joys of frequently updating the thing which will promptly kill most or all of your precious plugins. Fret not, for next time you load the thing it will, when it finally loads, subject you to blissfully frequent reminders that it's found updates for those plugins you rarely use (but not those you were using).

Such trifles are a small price to pay for a browser that frequently mangles sites that Explorer figures out and displays correctly. After all, nearly 20% of actual visitors using the various different versions of FF can't be wrong, so it's always a pleasure to rebuild my site for every damn new version they choose to spit out.

Unless of course you're talking about IE 8, which is no better tha FF. Uninstall the thing and go back to IE 7.

Tip - if you've loaded it up with plugins, addons and extra gumpth, get rid of it all except Roboform, Acrobat Reader and Flash.

You know the little thingy you get when you report it not responding and they say to kill the addons and check your machine for trojans and the like? They mean it.

Your clothes don't appear in your wardrobe nicely washed and ironed by magic you know.
A washing machine does all that? Wow! I'll have to trade my wife in for one of those.

          Back on topic.

Without browsers how can we do internet marketing?

Without a decent browser how can we do internet marketing effectively?

Now Kim knows how to do that she can tell her subscribers and help them save time/become more effective/make more money or just use the knowledge for herself.

I'm all for the holistic view of this forum. So many things contribute to the money-making process and some don't translate into making money directly but they help improve our business.

Let's say Kim costs her time at $300 per hour. If her browser crashes twice today and loses her 15 minutes each time, her business has just lost $150.

Whoever gives her the answer to the question makes her business more profitable. And it's a tangible thing too, not something that belongs in Mind Warriors.

Kim uses her name. Andy uses his name. They have been members for several years.

You don't use your name, hide behind a mask, and have been a member less than a year.

On top of that, you attack her for being off topic, but complain that someone supposedly attacks you for your comments.

The truth is the WF is a very forgiving forum. Most forums would have considered your comments one of two things. Either flaming, or thread hijacking. In addition they might also consider what you are doing with the "starting a debate" on someone else's thread to be an action of "padding your post count".

How is her comments off topic? One of the key words in "Internet Marketing" is Internet. Internet Browsers are critical in "Internet Marketing".

Just to clarify, "off topic" would be talking about politics, sports, etc. in the main forum. Most internet related topics are safe to post in this main forum with the exception of the "IE vs Firefox" debate. And noone has attacked you. They have only offered a slight nudge or "constructive crticism".

      Hi PaulM,

FireFox has been crashing very often for me lately
Try disabling your addons one by one. I had a great one called 'speed dial' that suddenly went funny after an update, and sent FF funny.

The only problem I ever have with FF now is if I close it and open it again within about 5 seconds, it reports an error that 'firefox is already running.'

It's like the washing machine - you have to wait a few minutes for it to stop spinning before you can open the door - or something a bit like that.

Ah, you replied as I was writing and I see you are indeed using IE8.

It's crap because it works the same as FF (damn "standards", as though the world has EVER been a better place due to some pointyhead's "standards"?) Innovation and working with what people already use is always better, IMHO.

You should find you can download IE7. Do so and save the file, then uninstall IE8, reinstall IE7.

Unless you're still on Win95 and Explorer is part of your operating system but I suspect that's not the case

I used firefox for a long time until it crashed on me really bad, time after time.

I then switched to Opera and Avant. Works good, but somehow didn't feel like firefox, so I switched back. Havent had a problem since. But it's always better to keep one or two other browsers, for those "just-in-case" moments.

Usually for me, when I open up a browser that isn't my default, I just get a box when I open it asking if I want to switch it back to default.

    Hope it helped a little.

    Steve.

Adding "numpty" to my English-to-American dictionary.

Also adding MaskedMarketer to my ignore list. You might want to do the same - I doubt it will be any great loss.

I can't find anywhere where he's actually posted anything worth reading.

I also find it slightly disconcerting when someone doesn't use a proper name to at least sign off their posts, but then that's just me

To get back on topic, if anyone has the dreaded IE8 installed, to delete it you have to

Click the Start Button and select Control Panel. Select Programs (Programs and Features if you're using the Classic View).
Select View installed updates (it will be under the Tasks column if you're using the Classic View).
Find and select Windows Internet Explorer 8 from the list of available updates.
Click the Uninstall button at the top of the list.
      Restart your system.

LOL, BIG Mike. Like you, I'm quite adept at washing and ironing my own duds. We probably learned how in the same place (Marine Corps boot camp) where it was one of the first things we were taught. Woe unto him who didn't excel at it

A friendly word to the wise for MaskedMarketer: In addition to affecting your reputation here in this forum, did you know that any post you make here is almost instantly indexed by the search engines and disseminated across the entire web? Just "google" your forum user name and 'see yourself as others see you'.

As for the topic at hand, I use FF for the part of my daily efforts that involve telephoning people. I like the clickable speed dial function.

I use Google Chrome when I just want a quick look at a page (usually one in a folder on my hard drive) It has limited functionality but it sure does load fast.

I use IE as my primary browser. I recently installed IE8 bta and I'm not pleased with it. I'll probably roll it back tonight. If I had my way, I'd roll my entire OS back to Windows 98

I've been using Flock for several months and have had no crashes or freeze ups. It's based on Firefox but without the bloat. I've been very happy with it.
