Test your website in all browsers!

Hey Warriors,

Test your website in all browsers.

This is a pretty obvious point to have in your checklist when testing your new website.

Although, it can be easily overlooked and I'll be the first one to admit it!

I've had my website launched for over 2 months and sales have been slow, even though I have (what I believe to be) a great product.

Within those two months, I didn't realise that my 'buy now' button, 'subscribe' button and my contact form, don't work in Internet Explorer!

I can't believe how many sales I could have missed out on.

So, cross browser compatability is very important.

As of June 2011, Internet Explorer is still the top in market share at 53%. Firefox is at second place at 22%, while Chrome is in third place at 13%. Given that Internet Explorer is still more than half of the market share, it's good to make sure that your site works with it, as Explorer (especially the older versions) is normally the one where your page might not display correctly due to some of its annoying quirks.

  • Thanks for these tips...appreciated.
This may not be the thread to ask this - though it is related ...

Does anyone else sense another "browser war" brewing?
Or is it just my computers...and obviously paranoia?
Google hates flash - Firefox hates this script...- IE takes forever - Opera works fast but won't download files...is just me that seems to be fighting a compatibility problem these days?

There's an impression going around that Firefox and Chrome are used much more than IE, but that's not so.

IE is still extremely popular, and should definitely be used to check your site on.

  • IE is still the primary browser. If someone does not know the internet does not install any other. That is why so many people using it. The test is a necessity. Websites built on tables display differently, but that button does not work? This a flash button?

Nobody likes the guy that throws facts around. Let the posters decide what the facts should be and present them as if they are true. What the hell is wrong with you?

I'm more concerned with what my visitors and clients are using when they come to my sites. Your analytics will tell you that. Some months IE is North of 70%.

So true... And if it's not worth 20 minutes to check your site in 3 or 4 major browsers, then maybe you shouldn't build the site in the first place.
