Information Overload? Try This...

Hey guys,

I thought I would share a technique that I use that helps when you need to take action.

If you are anything like me then you see 1001 things that you need to do and end up "skipping" - this is a term I use that describes jumping from one thing to another trying to cover everything as quickly as possible and what normally happens is that nothing gets done.

So if you DO find yourself doing this here is what I find helps:

1. Write down 3 things that you are going to do today for your business.

2. Do THEM!

3. Even if it takes you all night make sure you follow through and do them and when you are focusing on one thing you will see that you make progress and get results too.

At least this works for me...

Let me know what you guys use to focus?

All the best,

Chris Jones

I never put more than 3 items on any to-do list. I shut down if I have too many choices, paralyzed by which to do first.

To ease some of the information overload, I had to stop reading anything that was not directly related to my chosen business model. I had to give up the fear that I might miss out on the one magic formula.

So true. I can attest that one of the things I had to do before purging much of my casual reading/emails I've signed up for/newsletters was to stop thinking I was going to miss some sort of gold nugget that would revolutionize my business life. The magic formula does not exist, of course, but it's like my hope that I will one day find some of Blackbeard's hidden treasure in my yard (the place I live was an old stomping/sailing route of his).

It's not enough to want it... you have to want it enough.

I use a cool piece of software called action enforcer. It uses the principle of time boxing. There you put all your task and give them a time limit. Now you pick up the first task, on your timer and get to work, you stay focused on that task for that time and your mind will work with full speed and efficiency as it knows time is passing by...

I have a daily list - if I limit it to three things I get over confident and put off doing them, so I write down everything that I would like to achieve that day. Things that don't get done get put to the top of the next days list.

Also at the end of the day I find that writing down all the stuff that I did in the day towards my business that wasn't already on the list and then crossing it off really helps for those who feel like they have done a lot, but still have their to-do list full.

It ain't perfect - but it works well enough

    First things first...

start the day with at least 1 money making activity.

In other words, what's 1 thing you can do immediately that will make you money?

    The rest can follow.

    Also re info-overload.

Only learn what you need to know to make the next step. Ignore the rest until you need to know it.

I have survived quite well without software and most things.

However, I do spit my activities into 3 parts: traffic, product creation and promotion.

Allocate equal time to all 3.

    Best of success.

My advise is, focus on one thing at a time. Be very focused on what you are doing and do it right.

With a magnifying glass, the rays of the sun can be focused to set grass or paper on fire. When light is focused even more as a laser beam, it can cut through steel. There is nothing quite as potent as a focused life, one lived on purpose. If you want your life to have impact, focus it!

    Warmest Regards,
    Anson
