    Camtasia is probably the gold standard

    Camtasia is pretty expensive. I stick with screen cast o matic, jing and movavi. Jing is free and so i screen cast o matic but you can always upgrade to pro for a pretty decent price. Movavi was only about $50 bucks when I got it but they may have raised the price now.

    Try cam studio; search for it on google. It's super easy to download and to operate. Camtasia is very good, but it's not free

    I like camtasia too, but it is expensive. If you try camstudio, be sure to play with the compressor and quality settings to get the best results. You can probably find a decent free video editor/converter to do some finishing work with your recording from camstudio as I don't think it comes with one.

    I see you already got plenty of answers. I just wanted to warn you about updates.

    Think twice before accepting an update from either Camtasia or ScreenFlow.

    It happened to me a few times. When I upgraded to the new and just released versions weird things happened. I remember recording a 35-minute video with Camtasia and after clicking Save, nothing happened and the damn video wasn't saved.

    New version doesn't always mean a better version!

      I like Camtasia, it has always worked really well for me.

      Ashampoo has one bundled in with their Snap program. It does not pick up the sound but it seems to record the video OK. I have not pushed it to its breaking point because I mostly use Camtasia. Snap is a lot lower in price than Camtasia, but I would test it out first before using it to record an important video.

    I use Jing and it's great.
    I haven't used Camtasia myself, but I've heard that it's quite good.
    It's just too expensive for me at the moment.

      I just created my first video recently, and was happy with the results Camstudio produced ... but I wasn't asking a lot from it, either.

      I have no doubt that Camtasia is a better product in many ways than Camstudio ... it ought to be, since it is not free ... but I always figure it's worth trying a respectable free alternative if you don't need anything too elaborate. Your mileage may vary, of course.

      Hope this helps,

      Paul

    I use Camtasia, but if money is an issue Screenr is an online screen capture utility. It's pretty slick for what it is, which would be for basic needs.

    Camtasia (screen recorder) takes a lot of beating, but it's expensive and you do require a good powerfull PC to obtain the best results. Some people may find it "fiddly" to use. There are one or two programs that are very similar to the older versions of Camtasia, so try downloading various demos first.

    I have download many similar programs, but Camtasia is, in my opinion, better than the rest.

    Paid programs offer more features and convenience, you may want to go that route if you're doing a lot of recording

    Just go with with:

    CAMTASIA

    Its best test, most popular, most featured, most reliable software for screen recording.

    Why I'm saying that because I'm a user of this great software for about years.

    Let me tell you one thing that Camtasia is not only a screen recorder. It's a:

    * A good Movie Editor
    * Can able to add transitions
    * Have free great quality sound effects inside
    * Lots of great call-outs
    * Zooming Features.
    * And I'm sure I have forget to write lot more features of this program.

    So just go with Camtasia...

      Hi Guys and Gals,

      Yes, Cam Studio is an alternative, but you have to do much of the background work yourself.

      There is nothing that comes close to Camtasia, and you don't need to worry about converters and the like, because everything is built into Camtasia.

      I've been using Camtasia since 2007 (Camtasia 2) and I'm now using Camtasia 7.1, which is the best of all.

      Here it is in action on one of my videos, made with Camtasia, of course, so you can see just how much you can do with it by way of editing the raw video to make it really professional ...

      The good news is you can get a free 30 day trial. Hopefully by then your sparkling Camtasia video (or videos) will have piled up enough treasure for you to buy it.

      Here's to your great success,

      Paul

      P.S.

      Techsmith have just released a new version -- Camtasia 8 - which is somewhat different to Camtasia 7.

      But the good news is you can still get Camtasia 7 (complete with a 30 test drive) by going here: Previous Release Download Locations

      Scroll down the page and you'll come to the last version of Camtasia 7, which is 7.1.1.

      I use Camtasia. You can get to grips with it right out of the box.

      With that said though, I noted some limitations immediately too including video on video not being an option.
