Help with windows movie maker please....

Hello there,

I've used windows movie maker for the first time this weekend and have created an 8 minute review of a product that I promote.

Now to convert it to a wmv video for youtube I did a search online and have done the following:

saved the project to my computer/my videos and selected broadband and that was it pretty much....now the WMM video is over 8 minutes in length, however, when I upload the wmv to youtube and after it's processed it's only 40 odd seconds.

I'd appreciate any help you can give me....

Thanks

Colleen

Do you have the audio and video time lines the same length?

    Hmmm, good question Donald.

Okay I've clicked on show timeline and it's showing me the video timeline which goes to over 8 minutes audio music overlay shows nothing but all blue??

I did the audio at the same time as I did the video....

    Hi Colleen

Are you sure you saved the video properly?

When I first started using Movie Maker I kept finding bits missing (like the audio file!). Make sure all the bits are on your timeline before saving and don't delete the raw files until you are sure the video has been processed.

Does the video on your computer show a still from the movie (good news) or the WMV symbol (bad news)? Before uploading I always check the video is all there by copying it to my desktop and sending a copy to another computer.

    Hi there Martin,

    not sure lol

i don't think all the bits are on my timeline lol

what I did was I did the video in camstudio and then I've put in into movie maker so that I could do titles and credits etc before and after the review and then I've saved it.

When you ask me does the video on your computer show a still from the movie, good news or the WMV symbol bad news you mean the project that I saved via my computer??

I think the final one I have saved on my pc after adding the titles etc has wmv - i still have all the original files...

It actually does start doing the audio in the 40 second clip but then it seems to stop, the video and the audio

I use Windows Movie Maker and find the idiot-proof 'genie' an excellent aid. The very first movie I made was over 9 minutes long and I didn't realise that I could have done the soundtrack at the same time so recorded it later.
Maybe you have used an incorrect option in HOW you want the movie to be saved. There is a specific setting for 'To upload to a web site' and an option of three movie qualities.

I'm not an expert so I simply go to Windows Movie maker and follow the individual steps that the genie (which appears automatically) tells me to do. For example, the first time I used it I received the instruction 'Indicate media source' because I had not connected my video camera to the correct socket..
From there it is a simple matter of reading the next instruction and carrying it out.
Maybe you have switched the 'genie' off?
