How many of you offer FREE Products the receipients email address??

I recently had a discussion with a new marketer about how free products can help him get
people into his sales funnel so he could present higher quality products, OTO's and back-end products later after building a relationship with them.

Now this guy did have an opt-in box, however, his website had little text and few graphics which would make the visitor more curious about what he had to offer.

I told him how to fix his problem but this guy still argued his point. He went on so long he almost had me convinced of his madness.

How many of you offer free products for emails and has it hurt or help your business?

Yup definitely. I built my first list using Free Link Cloaker, which has made me several thousand dollars from various affiliate product sales. I'll be launching my new SEO guide in the near future to capture email addresses and allow me to sell my backlink search engine to more people.

    Definitely the way forwards.

Andy this is what I tried to tell this guy but he seems to headed towards "Frustration-Ville" from the looks of his business model.

He doesn't even know how to get people into his funnel.

I have tried many different ways, and i still dont have one certain way that i do it. i currently have multiple capture pages, and found that free stuff does work really well...

however, i have been getting a more "responsive" list, if i dont advertise the free product upfront, say in the newsletter or something, and then just give it to them as an unadvertised bonus when they subscribe.

Dave Vallieres used to argue against offering a freebie to get newsletter subscriptions. His theory was that you give away a freebie with a link to your opt-in and let them subscribe if they want more info.

I have always disagreed and firmly believe in using freebies as a bribe.

    DH ...

Like many marketers, I have used free products & services (both digital and hard copy) to build my list and my business.

I have even "lost" a little money on the front end KNOWING that the backend would pay out to compensate for that loss. (This was for a physical product, but I sure as tootin' knew my conversion and ROI numbers!)

Bottom line? Free product to start the sales process is a GOOD thing!

Free products known as samples are to get the client's telephone and home address. Then you call them and ask them if they like the sample of shampoo for example and if they want to buy more product.

If they say yes, you send them a color glossy catalog with other products you have, their order and a FREE GIFT thanking them and also a membership card that entitles them to discounts on future orders.

Now, If they say no, you send them a cheap B&W sheet with your top sales items on it. Also you keep their name in the database so you can email them your monthly newsletter - opt in for getting the sample.

I convert about 10% of the freebie hunters into customers. This is a great way to get new business.

It seems to me some people love to take the hard road in every thing they do.
