Hostgator - Primary domain?

If you are on the HostGator Baby Plan, do you need to have a primary domain for your websites to function correctly?

I ask because my primary domain expires on 15th September and I have no intention of re-newing the domain because I no longer need it.

I asked HostGator support about this a few weeks ago and they told me that I need to have a primary domain, but on this article HostGator say you don't need one, so im confused.

Your account works fine without a primary domain name.

Some little features in cPanel may become unavailable (like the File Manager file preview).

Try to use the hostgator online chat again .. sometimes you get hostgator reps that just don't know what they're talking about. I would try it again just to double check

Why not just pay the low renewal price to make sure everything carries on functioning?

Will cause less hastle for you.

    No, I don't believe so.

I've had my primary domain expire (or changed its DNS so it wasn't "linked up" and functional) at other (not HostGator) cPanel hosts in the past, and my addon/parked domains have always continued to function just fine.

EDIT: According to HostGator's site, you can update the primary domain yourself by following these instructions, anyway. So you might look at doing that if you've another domain to set as the primary.
