Affiliate Advice Needed For My Website

So now I'm ready to set up my first affiliate website and I hit a bit of a snag and I need some more advice (thank you to everyone thus far).

I've been lead to believe that squeezing with a freebie then selling via email is the best path. Choose a handful or even more than that (is there a number that I should plan on??) of products my customer might be interested in.

Cool....I get it.....

But then I see some affiliate sites that are placing the links actually on their site for a 1 time sale to a 1 time customer.

I can build websites (not well...but that's what WP is for) and I get SEO.....but I don't have the experience to know what to do when.

It seems to me going for the 1 sale from the get go you need tons of sites running like this to build up good money. Is that right? I don't want to build 80 sites. Is the best path (in your honest opinion) squeezing then selling via email.....

I just need some insight so I know....I tend to go back and forth with things.....and my brain in my own worst enemy...

Thanks a ton for your feedback....

Slappy

both models where a direct sale happens and where you build a list and then push for the sale, work. if your site gets 100 visitors this month and you make 2 direct sales, and so long as you continue to get the 100 visitors you are likely to get 2 sales as well.

now if you got some 30 people of the 100 visitors added to your list, it adds up over time and you start making additional sales with your list.

some people just choose one instead of both and that shouldn't stop you from doing both.
