I' have received great advice here so far, and come to you all with another question.
I have written an eBook and want to know if adding a small promotion to the bottom of all my posts would appear spammy? The promotion would simply be something like:
If you want to try to train your dog by yourself, then check out my "insert link" to ebook sales page.

You can do that with your signature, but you seem to be doing that already. You can't promote directly within posts unless you have a paid ad. And even then, it would have to be IM related. I don't think this forum is the best place to get customers for this kind of product. You'd do better marketing a product on how to sell dog training guides.

Sorry, to clarify, I meant posts on my own web site not on the forum.
      Cheers.

Sure, that's a good method to use on your own website. Give people helpful information and then have a link to a sales page. An even better system would be to build a mailing list on the subject.
