How to hire a GREAT web 2.0 developer

I have a very, very good idea for a unique website I want to develop. I am in the process of actually patenting the website process as an invention. The next obstacle I am facing is finding a brilliant web developer who can code a prototype. The idea is quite a bit complicated so I require somebody with considerable skill. Hence, the selection process is key.

If YOU were looking for the next Mark Zuckerberg (minus the screwing you over part), what steps would you take?

Note: University of Waterloo is right next to me. They have tons of talent.

Well, sounds like quite a project you have there...

I've got some pretty good work done with some database software a couple months ago with Elance.com and I posted on Freelance.com too - you'll find that with these sites, when people bid for work you're able to filter out if they fit your criteria or not.

The quality is usually quite decent! Find one that fit's the role for you...

Also, network - friends in the 'internet marketing' circle - always a good place to start!

Then, there is always your intuition - go check out the University nextdoor I'm sure theres alot of hungry talent there.

    Hope this helps,

    Colin
