Question about guest posting

I have a question for those of you who have experience with guest posting to build links.

Let's say I'm trying to build links to a page on my site called "xyz123 toaster oven review". It would be very difficult to find enough blogs that are relevant to my niche where I could guest post. However, I've noticed that a lot of blogs that allow you to guest post actually place your link in your "author bio" that is placed above or below the guest post.

Do you think blog owners from niches unrelated to mine would consider it too "spammy" to include a link to my "xyz123 toaster oven review" page in my author bio below the article? Even if I wrote an amazing guest post article for their finance, weight loss, technology, etc. blog?

I guess I'm asking if guest posting can be used to get links to unrelated sites or if that's frowned upon in the blogging community?

They might be more keen on a link that used "toaster oven reviews", because that looks natural and to the point.

But if you linked with "xyz123 toaster oven review", it would become obvious that you are doing it for SEO and they would frown on that.

I personally allow any poster that has quality content to leave a comment, but I leave them as NoFollow links. Whether it is spammy or not, if the website links to an unrelated page, it is not good for the rank of the page the posting is done on. If they are real concerned and knowledgeable about SEO, then they will not like to have an outbound link to an site/page of an unrelated topic.
