Australian Hosting in 2011

I am looking for Australian hosting companies with good support, cpanel interface and good pricing. It just seems that every time I find a company its either US or Canada based.

Your help is appreciated.

May I ask why you need Australian hosting? The page load times these days are almost the same with US-based hosting. Australian internet users are at ease with waiting a second or two for the page to instantly load.

I mean... You COULD go with the company Paul suggested (cheers!) and pay thousands just to get a few gigs of space and slightly faster loading times for a small number of visitors from Aus, OR, you could pay $10 a month, have unlimited everything, and a small number of visitors in Aus have their pages load one second later.

Specifically, try Dreamhost - they charge only $9 a month (even less given our Aus exchange rate) and have great support. I've always found their support to be very friendly and helpful.

Matt, Hostingbay is designed for IMers and offer the same price as their overseas cousins.

Also, you should take your affiliate link out of your post or it will get deleted.

Hi Paul, thanks for the tip re: the affiliate link.

In what way does Hostingbay provide an advantage over any other host for IMers? In fact, what advantage does it provide at all?
You say it’s the same price as its cousins, but this is not just wrong, it’s very wrong.

Let's compare this site with, say, a standard overseas cousin - Dreamhost.

    DISK SPACE
    Hostingbay:
    6GB
    Dreamhost:
    Unlimited

    TRAFFIC
    Hostingbay:
    100GB
    Dreamhost:
    Unlimited

    COST
    Hostingbay:
$1,200 AUD per year (less if paid in advance)
    Dreamhost:
$107.40 USD per year (less because of strong AUD)

    TLDs
    Hostingbay:
    28
    Dreamhost:
    30

    PRICE OF .COM
    Hostingbay:
    $17.00 per year
    Dreamhost:
    $9.95 per year

I'm sorry, but I don't see how they represent good value for money, and I don't see any IM specific features - let alone any that surpass Dreamhost.

I don't know what page you're looking at but I'm looking at Linux Web Hosting|PHP Web Hosting Service provider in Australia - Hostingbay.com.au

Cost; between $2.40 a month up to $18.00 a month

Space; between 200 mb and 15 Gb

Traffic; 500 mb, up to 20 gig

All I'm saying is the OP asked about AUS hosting and I told him about hosting bay, which is owned by Tom Hua who was moneymaking in IM before most of us even knew what it was... I used hosting bay for many years till my business needs changed. They offer a great AUS option.

Ooh I see that, sorry Paul, I was looking at the Windows Hosting area.

Yep in that case, they're not bad, but they are still more costlier on a per-gig-of-bandwidth and per-gig-of-space basis.

If you're a small time operator with minimal bandwidth and space requirements, then sure, go with them.

But lets grind the numbers. Any website with 500+ visitors per month each loading a single 10mb website (pretty small) will cost you 5gb in traffic. So, you'd need to get their Corporate plan. Which costs more than Dreamhost, and isn't unlimited.

Definitely agree with you re: small time users, who only need to host one small website in Australia.

For any other purpose, I'd have to politely disagree with using them.

It appears that 99% of australian hosting companies are just US/Canada resellers. Most just get a dedicated hosting there and re-brand it. I am still looking for well priced AUS hosting company. If you know one, please let me know

Have to say that outside of Hostingbay I don't know... but I do know Tom the owner, I've known him since 2002 when I hosted my first site with him.

He lives in Melb. and at that time things were al local; maybe it's changed now, but I'm sure it's only because he can provide a better service to his customers.

I still recommend some of my offline clients go with his company; if what they need, is what he offers.

      Hey John,
      How have you been?
Melbourne IT seems to be the only choice. I just don't believe that no one else in terms of big companies does it well.

Hey man, good to hear from you.

Melbourne IT was the only one that came to mind. Id say there's probably more but at least with MIT, you should have a decent level of reliability and support.

    Hi,

2 excellent companies are Site5 Site5 Web Hosting - Free 30 Day Trial + Choose Your Location and Crucial web hosting Reliable Australian Web Hosting | Crucial Paradigm Australia

Site5 offers servers in all different locations around the world including Australia. I am currently with Crucial as they offer Australian based cloud hosting. Site5 only offers cloud hosting in the US presently but hopes to offer Australian cloud hosting within a few months. Personally the tech support from Site5 is terrific and better than Crucial's support.

    Hi,

I should add that Site5 sales and support are US based but the servers are definitely in Australia and their support is 24 hour around the clock.

Crucial has offices in both US and Australia and you can definitely talk to them in Australia. Their servers are also definitely based in Australia.
