Hi,

I have two domains appstoreipad.net and .org as well.

According to Valuate.com .net domain worth 1200$ and .org worth 680$.

As I am not a regular domain flipper would you please share your thoughts here about the accuracy of this valuation.

Thanks,

Daniel

Well it's got some great keywords in the domain and it's in a popular area. I'd say if you could start to draw in some traffic and prove that it could draw a crowd it would be pretty valuable.

your thoughts here about the accuracy of this valuation.
In my opinion - 0% accuracy - and potential trademark problems with both domains

I agree with Kay on this one.

Not withstanding the trademark issue "app store" and "ipad" in
      the name.
With appstoreipad.net having a PR1 and very few backlinks
the next question is how much revenue is it generating?
I am guessing not much, IMO you will be hard pressed to
get even 5% of the "estimated" value.
Maybe one of the "flipping" experts can help you out here...

How would the website know your revenue...how would such a site know "what your site or domain is worth" <--- those evaluation sites are nonsense.

If you go on flippa and see how people refer to such sites you immediately know they are new to selling sites.

The only thing automated appraisal tools can do for you is give you a 'value' based on some common metrics taken from similar domains that have sold in the past. Quite often, these metrics do not apply to the domain you're checking, and there's no real way for the automation tool to know that.

Even human appraisers can't give you anything near an 'accurate' appraisal, because there is no such thing. Have 10 experts give you an appraisal, and you'll get 10 different numbers.

The value of any one particular domain depends on your ability to research and find a hungry buyer. To most of the world, your domain has little or no value. To a few prospective buyers, it may be VERY valuable.

As others have pointed out in this thread, a well known trademark is very problematic to begin with.

IMO Apple would win both of these domain names from you in a UDRP.

    Trademark domains are trouble.

A domain is only worth what someone is willing to spend in buying it. If you can only get an offer for $25 and nothing more, that's what your domain is worth.

As Gene has said, your best bet is finding someone that values your domain and is willing to buy it for more than a few dollars.

Personally, I would drop them both immediately because of the reference to the Apple product.

I'm afraid as people here have pointed out, those domains contain trademarks and Apple isnt shy about suing people to protect its rights.

Well... always take the online appraisals with a pinch of salt - a majority of the time, it's based off the keywords - in no particular order and could throw you off making you think your domain is worth $X,XXX.

You see, with domain flipping - any domain is worth anything to anyone as long as you find the perfect END USER! Maybe if you posted them domains on a App Forum and someone was happening to be looking for a domain with that exact match, then your in the zone. But to regular users like me or other warriors here, the domain doesn't hold much value - However, something like MakeMoneyApp.com would be a BIG hit here.

So my point is... find your END USER - who the value of the domain will be most valuable to.

NOTE: I'm not condoning the copyright infringement you have here, but it is definitely something you should be careful with.

    Hope this helps,

I love the way you crafted it. But I will like to say this wouldn't be a problem if you use the domain name, after hosting it, to promote ipad from appstore. It is just like an affiliate to them, but anything aside this spell doom

Yet another shining example of why you should never take legal advice given on an open public forum.

Apple owns the trademark for the word 'ipad', and they have to defend it if they want to keep it. Otherwise, the trademark protection goes away and the word is accepted for common usage.

It wouldn't matter how many ipads you sold as an affiliate, it would be small potatoes compared to the value of the trademark. Without that protection, 'ipad' would be a generic term for a tablet computer, not an Apple product.

Lot of "shining examples" in this thread

          Here's the basic problem:

You find a domain name with a famous brand "word" in it and you think:
"Wow, this was a great find. This will be worth something"

But it's worthless. The only reason it was available to the OP is because others know not to register it. It's unusable. Could you get by with it? Maybe, for a while....or maybe not. How much you willing to spend to find out?

Can you imagine any business more likely to protect its trademarks online than a company like Apple?

The domain is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay...But I seriously doubt any buyer would pay that. Also, have the words ipad in a domain is copyright infringement. Apple would not be a happy camper.

Probably not. Those valuation sites are highly inaccurate and based on NO real world data. That domain is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay, or as much as the domain's actual website is worth.. which is nothing if it's parked!

If you sold the domain without the site, then you may get an inexperienced noob buy it for that price thinking they have a winner in their midst.

However there is definately copyright issues with having ipad in the domain name.

I would check that id I were you because you may start seeing some good traffic to your site with some good promotion only to have ot ripped away from you for copyright infringement.

As for site valuation checkers there a load of rubbish, no one knows how much a site makes apart from the owner and thats what a site should be valued on not the age of the domain or how many links it has pointing back to it.

#1 - There is no such thing as copyright infringement on a domain name. Only Trademark infringement.

#2 - We are not talking about "site valuations". We're talking about domain name valuations. Two different things entirely.

I wouldn't give more than $25.00 for both of the sites, most of the times these value is not accurate. The value is calculated very easy! First the PR, then the number of the QUALITY backlinks and finally the number of the daily visitors. Other things should NOT be calculated. Then, you will receive the right value of your websites

Gene is your man here. I would guess Valuate is taking the iPad word into consideration when returning that figure. I was bored one day & did a valuation on one of my squidoo lenses. Simply due to the word squidoo in the domain title the valuation came back as Mega bucks.

Some heavy keywords there. This would be best for a landing page for an affiliate account I think....I doubt you'll be able to find someone who will pay you 1200 though, maybe 500 if you're lucky.
