Is WF Missing Something?

Hi guys,

I will go straight to the point.
As y'all know this is business, this is no joke.
What are we in, we need to understand the law and abide it.
However, there are a lot of law matters that we don't understand and for a lot of small guys out there, I bet they don't even have an attorney to consult to.

So are we missing something?
Perhaps a forum to discuss about legal stuff .
It would be great because people that gone through stuff can give advice about legal stuff and since law from different geographical area is different, we all can share experience and advice .

What do y'all think?

Cheers!

There may be a lot of legal issues that folks don't understand but this is not the place to discuss them.
If your not an educated and trained attorney how could you offer any real legal advice.?
Would this not create a real mess.? Any one in business should always have an attorney to consult.

Yeah, legal advice from a forum is never a good idea (unless it's a forum full of lawyers and even then i'd be weary). Laws are different from place to place so It would be almost impossible to give any good advice.

The only good legal advice that I have read in this forum is to contact your lawyer!

I just picked up a book a book, on all the legal issues about running a business in my state. I also have a lawyer but the book helps me ask better questions.

Or you could always just call the government offices in your city, they are always more than willing to help

Yes it is a legitimate matter of concern. I noted what Jerry West, someone worth listening to, said about the matter:

STEP ONE: You Need a Business Corporation. Do not start a CPA business without one. It will take just a few days and around $500.00 for the attorney to draw up the paper work. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP.

STEP TWO: Get an "Umbrella Policy". When you become successful, the likelihood you will be sued escalates. The Umbrella policy protects you in this matter. This will help you sleep at night.

I wondering how many people actually do this?

    Hi Nicholas,

i dont think that this a a viable idea. There is a lot of regulation, legalities and sublaws involved with different states, let alone countries. Besides that, its a norm to see the same law interpreted differently across different teritories.

I dont think that listening to any insights from a US lawyer will be applicable to yours, and same goes vice versa.

If you need help, consult your local chambers. That will be the safest bet.

The last thing I want is legal advice from a group of marketers. Just like I dont want marketing advice from my lawyer. Hopefylly WF will avoid this one.

As many said above, laws are different from countries to countries.

For example, I live in France and sell info products...one thing I'm required to do is provide a check box on EVERY optin page for people to choose wether or not they want to be added to the list or not (in addition to the usual disclaimers and all)...In other words people can optin but if they don't want to receive your newsletter, they can uncheck the box so they will receive...nothing. I know, totally crazy, but non-debatable when you don't want to spend the year eating oranges in jail...

When it comes to legal stuff I prefer taking advice from professional people... Plus it could very well get the WF in trouble if we start giving advice on everything, even when we're not accredited to do so...

However, one way we could discuss it could be by providing ressources to helpful websites or specialized Internet Lawyers (just like MaskedMarketer did)

Anyway, your post was a good reminder that we need to take it seriously and not forget rules and laws...which can easily be forgotten when you do business online.

    Have a good day.
