Where on site to put a blog?

I have my Wordpress site set-up with a static homepage and categories, each with one sticky post and additional supporting posts. All these articles are heavy with helpful content for the reader. I would also like to have what would probably be a typical blog area that I can add to on at least a daily basis. These posts would be shorter and also may contain more time pertinent info, such as news relating to the topic.
How should this be set-up? Should it maybe be the homepage instead of a static page and if that is the case, wouldn't it mess up my on-page SEO which is optimized for my main site keyword? Or is there a better place to include the blog? Maybe just a separate category with "Blog" as the title?
Thanks.

It will depend on your niche. And what your home page is.
Is your static homepage still using your current theme?

Are you using wordpress or another cms platform?

You can create a page called blog then just link to it from your home page

If you create a new page called blog then go into settings then reading and make sure that you select static page for home page and then select your blog page you just created as the default for the blog posts.

      Katied772 -

You have a number of options depending on the theme you choose for your blog. Some themes will cluster your posts into groups.

There are some paid themes that have a "revolving" or "sliding" window that will display the primary graphic of each of your 5 posts.

These options can make your blog very attractive and some themes will allow you to attract viewers right away by putting the content right at eye level.

Several experts I have listened to say the average on-page time for searchers is about 7 seconds. Believe it or not once trained - through experience - the human can make a fairly quick decision.

Quality and attractive posts can make a difference. A static page may not always be what gets the traffic to stay.

For what it is worth - I think the themes that cluster the posts and put them right out there are the best.

      Best of luck to you
