2,000th Post: Stop Being a Wussy

Because it's my 2,000th post on the Warrior Forum,
I wanted to give you a marketing tip that I hope
you find useful.

I've been self-employed since May 2001 (I'm too
stubborn to work for anyone else!) and have been
learning marketing by trial and error and also by
continual study (in fact, I'm a marketing nutcase).

Here's an advanced marketing distinction that I've
only really learned and appreciated in the past few
years...

Be Prepared to Repel Some People if You Want
to Attract Your Type of Customers

What does that mean?

Well, you gotta take a stand in your subject area
and provide a distinct and polarizing viewpoint that
stands out from most of the others out there.

Having a distinct voice helps you to rise above the
noise in your marketplace and get the attention of
the people who most want to hear your message.

How do you do that?

You do that by providing strong and hopefull accurate
opinions on your subject and marketplace that resonate
strongly with some people - and also repel others.

The world is a place of opinion between good and bad,
left and right, with people on either side and a bunch
of people in the middle ground.

Most marketers make the mistake of playing it safe and
not wanting to rock the boat or upset anyone else. Do
that, and you condemn yourself to being in the middle of
the road and almost guaranteed annonymity.

Instead, take sides. Stand-up for your viewpoint and
communicate your polarizing position to attract people
who have a similar viewpoint to you and repel the rest.

Sure, you'll piss off a few people along the way but you'll
also attract more of the people who think and feel the
same way you do.

I hope you find this tip useful.

Dedicated to mutual success,

Shaun

Nicely done! 2k is a lot of posts!

By the way i agree with you on this point. If you look around WF, you only see people complimenting other people on their points (irony?..). It's true that they want to play it safe. I am guilty of this myself. When i disagree with people here i usually just don't reply.

This is a problem, because it takes away from the content value.

The quantity of posts is a lot less important than the
      quality of posts.

I hope that the vast majority of the 2,000 posts are
useful and contributed to the discussion.

It took me over 6 years to get to 2,000.

It's better to add your point of view in the discussion
to make it more rounded and get more viewpoints aired.

As an aside, it's often the threads that contain two
wildly different and opposing viewpoints that get the
      most attention, views and comments.

Wow, congratulations on the high point that you have already surpassed the 2,000 posts that you have. And I truly believe in the idea of taking sides than playing it safe, although I myself am also guilty with that one. But I learned my lesson from it, since in every point of our life, there is no such thing as in between. There are only the left and the right; one has to take sides in life.

Yes, you need to have GUTS!

Be true to yourself, determine what you want to be
and take the courage stand up and do it.

Some people will criticize you but some of them will
also agree, buy from you and some can even be good friends.

Shaun, congratz on your 2,000th post.

Congrats on 2000, Shaun. Excellent advice btw.

You know, I believe I learned this lesson fairly well years ago when I first read something by Gary Halbert where he referred to his readers as "sh!tweasels".

    I hadn't considered myself a sh!tweasel, but I continued to read anyway ...
