E-mail Autoresponders??

I am using WordPress for my affiliate sites. I will be offering a free download when they enter their email address. WordPress has this.

I hear a lot of hoopla about AWeber. Can WP or another open source like Pommo do the same thing??

What do most use for the list building and email campaigns?? Ones that have auto-responders??

Thank you for your help.

I use aweber. Service, ease of use are second to none. I don't promote aweber as an affiliate but I always advise people to use them because they're one of the best/

To be honest mate, I started out using Gary's EmailAces program years ago. It was cheap and it did what I needed it to do.

I tried out GetResponse but wasn't overly impressed, not disappointed at all, but it didn't smoke my tyres in any way...

After about 9 years of affiliate marketing in a brutally crowded market, I finally switched to Aweber earlier this year. And now I'm kicking myself in the head that I didn't do it sooner.

As long as you have a really clearly defined plan about what your leads are for, where they are coming in and what you're going to do with them, Aweber is always going to be your biggest asset.

I'm not an affiliate for them either, just read around, you'll see more posts like mine.

It's really easy to set up, looks very professional and the price is good. If you aren't at least making your fees every month from your leads, you need a new product!

At this early stage in your venture, don't make the same mistake we all did trying to do it cheaper, take the plunge and sign up for Aweber. Their support is also insanely good.

Email autoresponders are one of those things that you just NEED to have... Don't skimp.. if you can afford Aweber now, get it. It will save you money, time, energy, frustration, etc. later when you're trying to import all your lists from all the other places that you've managed to try.

Just do it "right" the first time.

There are 100s of services that promise to deliver your emails through software, hosted solutions or wordpress plugins, and they all work...BUT

the reason why you should use services like Aweber, Infusionsoft, GetResponse etc is the deliverability rate which means your email will be delivered to the recipient inbox rather than "spam/junk" folder.

If you can afford these services then go for it.

I tried GWA plugin for wordpress just for the fun of it, the funny thing is that the plugin developer's email was always in my spam folder lol

    My recommendations are:

    1) Forget free autoresponders, Wp and any other open source programs - use a reputable autoresponder service provider - Aweber, GetResponse and 12SC (lesser well known but excellent). I've used them all and each have pros and cons

    2) Make the right decision from day 1 (I guess that's why you're asking?) because it's too late after you build a list to say 1000 subscribers to move to another supplier - few (none to my knowledge) of the reputable suppliers allow you to import your old list because of the potential spam complaints that often arise.

Here's an article I saw at EzineArticles by one of the expert authors there, Paul Frees, that may help you in your decision:

    GO TEAM AWEBER!

It's the only autoresponder I've used, but not a fault in them!

Hope this helps you with your decision.

    P.S - It's a $1 for the first month - try it out for a month!

I use two autoresponders at the moment. Aweber has always been easy and cheap to use. The other is iContact but seems to get expensive if you are really sending out a lot of emails. Plus they charge you for services that you may not use. Aweber is still my choice.

Costly though - especially once your subscribers get over 2500 ($30 monthly) and at over 5000 it's $50 a month.

I guess the bottom line is 'horses for courses'. Maybe, even though I'm making good money, it's the Scottish in me but I still value my 12SC responder service at $14 a month - especially in that it offers an included Capture Page Maker and a couple of other handy tools, something none of the others do, leaving you to have to go out to another provider to them at extra cost.

    TCR1016 - Brad here.

Well, a couple of things about auto responders. I think the posts are unanimous - 1) you won't want to do IM without one; 2) cheap is not a good idea; 3) the best is the least you want.

I do promote AWeber - but for a couple of very good reasons. First, every single quality trainer on the internet strongly recommends AWeber. Chris Farrel, Yaro Starak, Jay and Sterling as well as Pat Flynn. Second, it works and works extremely well. Training is on site and understandable.

I can not say enough good about my experieince so far. Hope you will invest the $20 bucks for a couple of months. You should see quickly just how important a quality system is to your success.

Best of luck in your efforts.

    Cheers !

aweber would be the best choice hands down, although if you are looking for a cheaper one you could try mail chimp its second to aweber in my opinion, they allow up to 2000 subscribers as far as I know.

Best thing about mailchimp is that it has all the features of aweber and if your list does become popular you can upgrade its very cost effective

I will not recommend any professional autoresponder service... although I could. However, in the light of the original question:
Can WP or another open source like Pommo do the same thing??
    the recommendation is irrelevant!

The main point here should be to highlight the completely wrong misconception about stupid WP plugins!

No matter what they promise when it comes about building a list (acquiring subscribers to your mailing list) - no WP plugin or WP itself can do anything for you. Period.

Trying to build a list through WP or through a WP plugin is no different than collecting email addresses in your Outlook (or any other email client) and trying to send out email messages using your host or your ISP.
In other words - it's a stupid approach! Your host can suspend your account, your ISP can ban you and so on.

Just for clarification: if a plugin offers to easily place your AR code in your WP installation... that is different. That's a lazy solution for people who think they cannot copy paste the AR form code into a plain text widget

So, the answer to the quoted question is: NO, content management systems and blogging tools can NOT replace autoresponder services.
