Hostgator.com is great. I love them and MANY people use them. You can also use the coupon, leftspeaker, for the first month free. You only have to pay for the domain.

Sorry, maybe this is gonna sound stupid but i am new on this so i pologize but does the alexa rank matters when choosing a webhost? i mean, the higher the rank, the best the service or is it just that i have to evaluate by myself what the different hosting services has to offer to me?

Hostgator without a doubt. Best customer support, one button installation of wordpress, 24/7 Customer Support, first month for free or .01 depending on the coupon you use, and reasonably priced hosting plans. You can get a great one for less then $10 a month from them.

wow, it seems that hostgator has many positive comments but i've heard( i dont' know if hostgator or blue host) that you could have some issues if your site starts to get a lot of traffic, can somebody explain me that please?

I'm with JSThompson on this. But first month free or .01 is what I am not sure of. The only time I bought hosting from Hostgator for .01 was when Godaddy was down and the coupon GODDYISDOWN gave me access to 6 months free hosting!

That will be with any domain hosting as long as you're not on a dedicated server or virtual server. However that is usually not due to traffic but scripts taking up too many resources. But just getting started out Hostgator's basic service will be enough. When you get to the point they are telling you that you are using too much of the machine you should have enough money to move to a dedicated or virtual server.

Alexa rank does not matter at all, has nothing to do with it.

All shared hosts (Hostgator, Bluehost etc) are meant for low traffic. You need cloud hosting or a dedicated server for huge crowds. If you're getting less than 10 000 visits a day and have a simple website, don't worry about it. If you run a resource intensive software, you need to upgrade sooner.

I use and Highly recommend hostgator.

I have the business plan I pay $14.95 a month (which I do not know why)

All you need is the plan for $9.95 and it does the same thing... Now I also have used GVO and to tell you the truth it sucks... Takes forever to get your site propagated (if I said that right lol)

Also it is a pain on GVO just adding another domain to your account. Now on the other hand hostgator is simple and quick. I have also heard good things about hostmonster, bluehost and brainhost.

Just look for hosting that has Cpanel and has a good rep.

        hope this helps

        -Chris

Bluehost has been great to me.

AWESOME support. They just walked me through a complete domain transfer a week ago!

One-click wordpress install here as well.

I use both Hostgator and Bluehost and I have to say that I have better site loading speeds on Hostgator (same types of sites) and I have better technical support on Hostgator.

Bluehost does have the one-click Wordpress install, but overall I have had better service with Hostgator.

Hostgator or Bluehost are both good mainstream hosting suppliers for starting out with.

The support from both is good and that will be more important than almost anything else when you are a newbie.

There are some key differences though.

Hostgator charge monthly and Bluehost charge yearly. So if you don't have $107 dollars spare then Hostgator is your choice ($7.99 a month).

Bluehost do have proprietary "CPU throttling" so you are better protected from errant scripts etc. i.e if you have heavy processor usage script it will be throttled at your account level and will not bring down others on the shared server (generally!!).

Hostgator does not and any scripts running amok on your site will almost certainly get your site closed temporarily until you fix it.

The vast majority of people using the hosting normally, and not using autoblogs or any scraping software, will be unlikely to have any issues

Alexa rank - sorry you have the complete wrong end of the stick on that one - forget it.

Are you still with WestHost? And are you still happy with them? Did your site response times increase only after you upgraded to a business account? Thanks.

Honestly.. any cPanel based web host is going to be the same as the next one. And there are thousands of hosts. You'll just want to make sure you're hosting with the pros that'll keep their servers secure and your website online. Also guys that are big enough to provide you support, in the middle of the night - 3am, when you've locked yourself out of your account for too many failed login attempts.

Hostgator has a lot of fans.. They pay great commissions on their sales so people push them very hard. You'd be surprised at how much better quality service you may get at a somewhat smaller host though that may be more willing to hold your hand as you learn your way.

    Good Luck.

I use them for all of my websites. Here are two coupons, I forget which is which. One is for 9.95 off and the other is for 25% off. If you're just signing up for a basic plan and domain the 9.95 off will probably give you the biggest discount.

I had a similar dilemma recently, chose HostGator and didn't regret it. I like that it allows you to host multiple site on the same hosting account (of course, depending on the account type), which will come in handy pretty soon Also, one click Wordpress install (and other scripts/CMS) is also a plus

One thing to remember is your target market re: SEO - If your site is for the Romanian market then it may be of advantage to use a Romanian host and Romania domain suffix. If your market is the US then Hostgator is as good as they come.

      I use Hostgator.

Have used it for 5 years.

      Their support is outstanding.

However, they did lose one of my wp blogs and I didn't even get a "sorry".

On the other hand, some of my websites were hacked and they cleared that up right away.

    HostGator all the way!

I have been using them for a year now and their service is outstanding. When ever a problem crops up. Like me being a bit dense i just hit the live support button and chat to a real person. About 6 hrs ago i used the live help and i could not find the item he was directing me to so the support guy went and did it for me and then explained the problem (which was caused by me mis labelling something).

24/7 support like this and a decent (not the cheapest but starting from $5 per month) price makes me a very loyal Hostgator user.

Haven't had one phone call from Blue host or Godaddy lol. Hostgator seems a lot more straight forward as well when purchasing a package compared to other hosting such as Godaddy. I personally use DiscountAsp.net.

    Here's Why

When you pick a hosting company.
Please do not think about where you are at today.
You have to think about "scale" and where you want to me.

    Ask yourself this.

How many customers are you trying to acquire?

    Most hosting choices are.

    1. Shared
    2. Dedicated
    3. Cloud

Shared is the cheapest and a good starting point.
So I will not focus on the other two since you are asking where to start.

When you deal with "shared" hosting.
A lot of companies "restrict" their servers in terms of what can be done with it.

For example: What if you are doing well and you want to hire a developer part time to help you with some customization. Depending on your hosting company. The developer could be limited in what solutions they can offer you.
Trust me, I have consulted with tons of people who had to switch hosting companies due to scale issues.

This is why I like discountasp.net very much.

    1. They support .net developers (Microsoft) as well as (PHP)

    2. They support a "reporting" platform called SSRS (SQL Reporting Services)
THIS IS HUGE!!! You might want to at some point do you own custom reporting.

    3. They support SQL Server and MySQL database management systems.
Once again, you might want to track your own data.

    4. They support a code management platform called TFS (Team Foundation Server). This means if any code that runs you website will be stored in a organized central repository. This allows you to version any changes you make to your site.

    5. Wordpress hosting. It's very easy to install wordpress as well.
You will have the ability to integrate WordPress into other offerings that DiscountAsp.net has. This is how you get a competitive advantage over others.

The idea here is simple. Find the most cost effective hosting provider that allows you to "scale" the cheapest. I think DiscountAsp.net is a great choice.

    The cost is only 10/month.

If you want 3 free months.

    ASP.NET Hosting by DiscountASP.NET | 3 Months Free

Message me if you have any questions.

I've always been deterred by host gators design though that doesn't really speak for the quality of their hosting.

GoDaddy has worked nicely for me.

I've been with Hostgator from the beginning, i.e., more than 8 or so years ago.

They've been great the entire time. Since they've been purchased, the wait times for support have gotten longer, but they are still available by chat or PHONE(!) 24/7. The support is still helpful and friendly, so I'm sticking with them, certainly for now.

And their prices are great too (especially the Baby plan). I've heard recommendations for Liquidweb, and if I ever find I have to change, I'll give them a try.

I also have a reseller account with Hostthename, and they've been pretty good too. No phone support, though
