INTERNET MARKETING

When trying to build list in other niches than IM niche, it's best to have a lead magnet (a free gift).

But is it best to mention that they're subcribing to our mailing list, or not?

I mean:

a) Enter your email and get the free report

b) Subscribe to our great newsletter and get the free report

I think maybe not everyone knows that entering your email means subscribing, and if I not mention that they're subscribing it's like treating them like they're foolish and spamming them.

Or everyone knows that entering your email means subscribing and it's just like "gild the lily" to do that?

(The niche is OUTSIDE of INTERNET MARKETING NICHE)

Everybody does not know, and it's definitely a good idea to tell them and set the expectations. You're building relationships here.

If they don't want to be on your list, they don't want to buy your products anyway.

  yep, be completely up front with them.
  
  If they feel duped then they won't be your customer.
  
  My experience is that people that are not in the IM niche are less of a freebie seeker and more of a tire kicker. Most are not internet marketing savvy and do not even think about the marketing process. You cannot assume they understand they are getting added to a mailing list.
  
  It is also more important to keep those emails that you send to them very targeted and relational / conversational especially in the very beginning.

Yes, it's best that they know to avoid people getting pissed at you. Maybe you could add a disclaimer at the bottom of your squeeze page.

If you are using an autoresponder most of them have a double opt in so that the person has to opt into your list after entering their details. They should then be aware that they are going to be on your list.

If you are using an autoresponder they can cancel the subscription at any time.

I think it's a good idea to 'frame' your visitors and subscribers by telling them they're going to join your list - I think it will also help reduce complaints.

Have to confess I don't for my internet marketing lists simply because I think everyone in this niche 'expects it'. Not sure if that assumption is right or wrong?!

On the extreme end - if you're going to email daily - then mention it when they join your list. You may get less subscribe but you do start to qualify your list and educate them and manage their expectations.
