Accountability Partner can increase your success, really!!?

Dear Warriors,

I have read a lot about how an "Accountability Partner" can keep you more focused and make your more successful.

I want to ask:
  1. Have you ever had an Accountability Partner?
  2. and Did it really benefit you?
  3. what would you suggest to make this system a real success?

Please share your opinions.

Thanks

Yes it is true, having someone to report your work to boosts your productivity, take for example students, they have to report back to the lecturer with courseworks and projects, otherwise no student will get work done. Even the best of students.

Having accountability partner, or a mentor, or coach will boost your productivity by 10x, I had a coach and I did not regret paying for the service. All the successful people of the world have a coach, without which they would have stalled, not knowing what to do next.

If you can get someone to watch over you, or work with you, or advise you, then this is better than going alone. I can be your accountability partner if you so needs, i have many and I am always open to have more, I want to improve my productivity by 100x :-) cheers

@Dee Odus & @AmandaT Thank you very much guys for your thoughtful replies.

I have been living online for last 4 years. But now want to be more accountable to my work and increase the business from here further.

Can you please shed some more light on how can I find an accountability partner and how to make this system a success for both of us (my partner and me).

I will be happy if I can make some sort of this tie-up with you (of course only if your time permits and if you are interested). Please let me know; and I will send you more details about me.

      sincerely
      ~Prakash

I agree with everyone so far that it is helpful to have someone that holds you accountable.

I am not sure where you are located but there are a couple of ways to find a good partner.

You could find a local IM meetup group through meetup.com or even on the warrior forum. If there is not someone close to you you can do it virtual like via skype, etc.

How I found mine was at a mastermind group meeting. Just became friends and we were helping each other out.

Another great way to be help accountable is to work with a JV partner. They tend to really keep you focused

It is also a great time to vent your frustrations. If you find a good partner they will understand what you are going through and provide the motivation to continue.

I used to have one and I was always more productive. Basically, we would talk on MSN about our projects, talk about what needed to get done, and throughout the day, usually once or twice, talk about what we did that day. We could also ask each other questions, share our projects, we even worked together on a few.

It helps to make friends in IM that you can talk about your projects with. When you are telling other people about your plans you are more likely to stick with them. It also can give you a lot of inspiration to keep going.

You and your partner must be willing to be honest with eachother and themselves, as well as be able to point out when you are making excuses about not doing your work.

    I appreciate your replies, thanks.

So, it appears that Accountability Partners can help each others succeed.
    • But what do you suggest to people who do not have a friend or family member or any other person in their society running an online business.
    • Also, finding a sincere and reasonable partner seems to be a challenge.
Guys your reply can help a number of people like me. I am sure I am not the only one who wants to team up with a reasonable partner.

If there is anyone else out there who does need a sincere accountability partner, please do send me a message. We can ask a few questions about each other and slowly accommodate this practice in our work life.

That's why we have the internet, you can have a friend you have never met in person, or business partner you never spoke to on the phone. Internet is one large community. Do you have meetup.com in your city? you can find people of similar interest, or you can organise one yourself.

Dee is absolutely correct. I have a great example of this too.

I recently joined up with 2 other partners to create a new marketplace called idavi (see sig). One of them I had met for maybe an hour over dinner one time while I was in phoenix and the other I had never met until we released the site. It was all virtual. We talked all the time but never met.

We released the site at an affiliate marketing conference in Atlanta and the first time I ever met Sid was when he walked into the hotel.

I am sure you can find someone on this forum. There are other places in the forum you can post too that may be better. Just because you are going to be each others accountability partners does not mean you have to have a JV partner relationship. You may eventually but you have time to see if there is trust there.

Yes, an accountability partner can keep you on your toes. I would recommend making it a habit and a lifestyle change. For example, a husband and wife can be accountability partners for each other. It can be as simple as reminding each other to update their to-do list for the next day.

I have to laugh, only because my wife wants NOTHING to do with IM. I would be better off getting the dog to be my accountable partner. But you are correct.

Okay I am going to chime in here. I would really like to say first that I would not choose anyone in my family and friends. Even if they did have an online business. And here is why.

Family and friends are less likely to call us on our bull and can sometimes even lead us astray with the ever popular you know I don't feel like it, we don't have today thing. Instead find someone that is doing what you want to be doing and who does what you do. For instance if you were going to find a work out partner, you would not start at the doughnut shop with the over weight person, you would look at the gym for the fit guy that goes to the gym everyday and is not going to let you give them a line of bull.

As far as find a partner, heck this forum is full of people that do what you do and that will hold you to the word and goals you set. Seek out the ones that do what you do and find out if they have the time or a partner already. Don't ever be afraid to ask. The worst they can say is no and then you move on till you find that fit for you. =D

Thanks Mike for sharing your opinion and experiences.

    I also agree with @genhorrall

The disadvantage of making an accountability partner someone from friends or family is that we may be talking to each other - things other than "pure business or work". I would like to refrain from that.

It should be more close to an office experience, where people mostly talk business but are friendly too, at the same time.

I met my accountability partner in a blogging forum. I needed a header for a blog done, and she offered to do it. That was about 2 years ago now. We keep in touch by email, and brainstorm ideas, discuss what works and what doesn't work, and generally keep each other on the move.

What's really nice too is that we've become firm friends. When I went interstate to a blogging conference 18 months ago, I stayed with her and we went together. It's great to have someone to keep me on the go, but what's also nice is that she understands IM, which is something my family just don't get.

As Dee said, you're quite likely to find someone in this forum, or another IM forum. Have you read any posts in a thread from someone whose ideas and opinions match yours? Maybe add your thoughts and start a dialogue, so they know who you are. Then, if you think there's some rapport there, you could send a pm to say hi and see where that takes you.

The best way to go about is to have an accountability partner in the same niche you are working right now than having your wife or mom or someone in your family be your accountability partner. Having your family member as one might cause real issues.

Find someone in your niche and find someone that understands your business and your plan you are moving on right now. Then you can shoot back emails at the end of the day and tell what you have accomplished during the day and your partner and you will again shoot back emails replying back, this should increase your productivity...
