Why is this hosting so cheap???

Watdup warriors!

I was seeking for a hosting plan, thinking i could find something cheaper than the usual $3.95/month from Hostgator.

Then one day, i stumbled upon this this hosting company called HostSo.com

It was charging merely $1/month for their Aspire plan.

First thing that came to my mind was... HOLY CRAP! I HIT THE JACKPOT!

But then again, i'm no pro when it comes to choosing a hosting package, so i started getting suspicious

So to all warriors out there, can you guys check this out and suggest if this HostSo.com is TRULY AN AWESOME deal or would it be best to just stick with HostGator's $3.95/month plan?

P.S: I would appreciate it if you guys could state your reasons e.g. spec comparison, and not just being in favor of the norm (HostGator)...

Thanks to all warriors in advance!

Cheers!

It gives you another unique IP good for backlinking to your other assets for little money.

Their sales domain host IP seems to be located in Orlando, FL, it would be interesting to see how many domains are on a $1 server.

I have one account on a $16/year host, I discovered that messages sent from on page email forms were rejectd by my ISP postmaster because someone else on the server had been spamming and got the IP blacklisted.

I bought a hosting for $25 per year last year. It was working fine for a couple of month and then they simply dissapeared off the radar. Good thing I only had 1 site on it, otherwise it would be a disaster.

Make sure to backup your files and databases no matter which hosting you choose.

If you want to limit yourself to 1 domain it might be OK. However, if you compare common plans ("unlimited" domains, webspace and bandwidth), then Hostgator is cheaper.

I am using lovinghosting.com for 5 domains (maximum of 20) for $2/month and I have no problem at all for 3 years now.... If you have multiple sites, scatter them to multiple webhosts, not just one....

I cannot recommend hostgator enough. They have great live support and their hosting panel is very user friendly. I wouldnt go with anyone else. Yes it may be cheaper but it could be a pain in the long run if you choose to have more than 1 domain. Transferring could be very difficult.
Hosting is ESSENTIAL in Internet marketing so I wouldn't look and saving money in this area.

In answer to your actual question, I am 99% sure this is not an actual hosting company but one of two things:

    A reseller
    An affiliate

In both cases they make money. In the case of the reseller, they can resell the package they buy for say £20 per month to 40 people for $1 each, thus profiting $20 per month. Upscale and outsource it and you can have a god recurring income.

In the case of affiliating, hostgator as an example has an affiliate program offering $50 per sign up (upto $125 for volume sales) Let's say this is mass marketed and you can sell 21 per month, that's $125 per sign-up. The lowest priced plan right now is $4 per month so let's say I paid your hosting for a year $4 X 12 =$48 and I profit $77 per sign-up. This could be a slight spin of that.

Have you stopped to ask yourself how much time is worth spending on trying to save $2-3 a month?

Hosting is a basic for your online business - risking downtime and slow loading to save a couple bucks isn't a good business decision to me. Just sayin...

I never think it's a good idea to worry about a couple of bucks a month and risk my sites on a host nobody ever heard of. Hostgator is world class hosting and is really dirt cheap, considering all you get and their excellent customer support.

Thx guys for all the response

It really got me to bounce back onto reality...

I mean, it would be naive to try and cut back on something that is already pretty cheap

But then again, HostSo.com could be like what DAVEJUG1 said, about being a reseller or an affiliate... which is good news (i think???) because we would be getting the same quality from HostGator but at a discounted price.

Either way, i think i'll stick with the best and leave the other for a test site

    Cheers!
