SEO Related Sites Beware..

I have quite a few Wordpress sites that are in the SEO and IM niches and over the last couple of days I have been going through all the spam looking for decent sites for backlinking.

I have noticed that someone seems to be targeting SEO related sites with porn related anchor text....in other words in the Name box the name (anchor text) is porn related.

The comment is exactly the same and is quite long and once again is all porn related so who ever is doing this is using the usual kind of software that spammers tend to go in for.
There are no links in the main body of the comment just in the Name.

All the sites that these links point to are all in the SEO niche and so far I have found seven sites each with over twenty of these "porn" links pointing back at them.

I have informed the owners of the sites and deleted the spam but I am wondering why anyone would do this and if anyone else has found these links in their spam?

Cheers,
Mark

Maybe who ever is building these backlinks has had some kind of bad experience with SEO as the sites they are targeting all seem to be excellent sites offering good content and advice on different aspects of SEO, but none of them are offering SEO services so it cann't be a unhappy client.

    Just so I understand.

Someone is leaving a comment on your site using a porn related anchor, which points to a site about SEO?

If that is the case than it sounds like someone, or a group, is trying (testing?) a malicious link build and targeting sites in the SEO niche to see how it effects rankings or site trust-worthiness.

there was a thread (forum will NOT be named) I came across a few months ago where some SEO'ers got together and pointed malicious and spam like links to a site from a variety of sources to see what would happen. Site was promptly sent flying to the bottom of the search results.

Now if that is NOT what is going on here, then I just wasted a lot of digital paper lol.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

      @ Blogging Pro,

Thats exactly what is happening but they are going after at least seven different SEO sites that appear to be unrelated....different owners, different hosts etc...

I have found these links on over 40 of my sites so it looks as if they mean business.

Nothing new. Scary? Yes. There are two trains of thought regarding this. The first is that if you could really affect another site by building malicious links then we'd all be doing it.

The other thought is that it can be done and has been proven. It poses a strong ethical question to the SEO community regarding how far someone will go to achieve higher rankings for their own sites.

If the sites you mention are older and already have a fleshed out link profile, it won't effect them much--but you'd be surprised how these links would harm a brand new site, especially in a low-competition niche.

Guerrilla SEO could become a very mainstream IM topic over the next few years.

I realise that this is nothing new but was always under the impression that malicious backlinking had little or no effect or as you said we all would be doing it to beat the opposition.

The sites in question are pretty well established and provide excellent information and help regarding SEO. The owners have spent quite some time and or money putting these sites together.

I really hope that this test (if it is a test) fails or the consequences will have an impact on SEO as we know it.

It might help if you put all your points and comments in order and submitted just one reply rather than trying to bump your post count.

The point of this thread is purely to warn owners of SEO related sites that someone is building spammy porn related backlinks to their sites and to watch out for this.

Please try to offer something constructive before diving in.....

    Thanks,
    Mark

Porn niche very hard to get index by seo not like other niches. So the must do spamming to get random backlinks and hope they will rank up well on SERP.

I hope those SEO site owners will take enough actions to delete those actions from porn sites.

However those porn sites are now spamming all those sites from where they expect to get instant backlinks.

Why would google penalize links from porn sites more than other sites? It's not like porn is illegal, in most cases anyway.

Whenever I receive comments of this kind, I always enter the sender's IP address into IPdeny in my hosting. Then, of course I delete their comments.
