Viral list building... You can either build a list one by one, or, leverage your efforts and have others building your list FOR you (for free).

I created a script years ago that enables people to "pay" for my product by referring subscribers to my list. Prospects simply sign up, get an instant referral link, and then use that referral link to generate "x" number of subscribers. Once they've done that, they are emailed the download link for my product...

I include an actual (Clickbank) order link for those that want to pay real money instead, and get the product instantly.

I haven't touched this website + script in 4-5 years and it still generates subscribers and sales on autopilot to this day.

...But I've recently taken this general concept and created a brand new viral list building system which is even MORE powerful.

Blogging will get you lots of people who are passionate about your niche in the same way as you.

A good lead magnet (pdf report, audio, video) allows you to create a squeezepage.

Overall just see what the other players in your niche are doing and then modify slightly to your own style.

Try facebook ads, they are very targeted and not too pricy (at least not yet...).
Direct to squeeze page and collect emails, but remember always have valuable give aways...

Buying ads in other peoples email newsletters

1.) Gets lots of traffic fast
2.) The subscribers you get will be proven clickers & openers
3.) They understand the whole newsletter/subscriber process already
4.) Relatively cheap source of advertising

if you search out PLR sites there are plenty that offer software. there is even one here on the forum PLRassasian that is excellent and they carry a nice assortment of products you can use.

i agree with Justin that solo ads are really the best way to go, besides offering a solid product for sale and building a buyers list. the benefits of owning a proven buyers email list FAR outweigh owning a freebie list, so the next best thing in my oppinion is buying a solo ad to a list of proven buyers.

Depends on whether you are willing to invest in time or money. If you can invest in money, then solo ads will get you people onto your list within 48 hours. Good way to start and get some momentum. Free list building tactics are good for long-term and require time investment. The three best ones are probably article marketing, forum marketing, viral ebooks.

I am a big fan of building a list through selling products. This gets you a list of people who have already spent money with you and are more likely to buy from you in the future.

Another option is to get your free item listed on the Thank You page for a paid product. This gets you a list of buyers, just not a buyer from your product. Offering a complimentary product as a Bonus for a product creator is another very cool way to grow your list.

You could also give away a e-course in your niche that would benefit the customer. Then at the end the course promote your website/product.

all the answers here are missing something vital...
      IMHO

You have to start with the SUBSCRIBER FIRST then worry about the "method"

The first thing you have to determine is:

      a) who is my ideal subscriber
      b) how do I plan to monetize my list once I get them on there

The lifetime value of your list is going to be determined from the beginning by a) where your traffic comes from b) THE OPT IN BRIBE

Let's say you are selling high end cars. Chances are they may not read many Ezinearticles (i.e. scratch article writing) but they do spend time on Linkedin which has ppc.

Or, let's say you are doing work-from-home type of products - chances are they are on some create ezines but are older and don't spend alot of time on facebook.

The point is you have to know something about your subscribers before you can a) go to where your ideal prospects are and b) create the kind of 'ethical' bribe that is most likely to put someone on your list that will not only buy once, but invest again and again.

The real money in a list happens after the optin and/or the first sale.

      a) know your subscribers/prospects
      b) go to where they are
      c) create an attractive offer that puts the right REPEAT buyers on your list

      Hope this helps....

      PS
Of course advanced strategies like list segmentation, content personalization and email retargeting will help you spend more time marketing to the 1-5% of the people on your list responsible for most of your profits.....

Opt in forms should be attention grabbing, to the tip, banner advertisements also can do wonders, in addition you can even approach other bloggers in your very own niche with akin size blogs. You can even send PDF’s which can cover your E-books.

I normally use free eBook to get my list but sometimes it gets harder and harder these day because it is so difficult to get them to out their email in the box. Honestly I use WP plugin and found that it did help increase my opt ins by a lot. hope this helps

Well as said before, make sure you target the folks who would be interested in your list.

If you are teaching marketing and try to recruit people who don't use the internet for anything but facebook, it will be a tough sell.

If you decide to use facebook advertising, you are better off sending them to a facebook fan page (users on facebook like to stay where they are familiar) and then in the posts of your wall, offer a video and articles. You can require an opt-in to see such videos or articles, and send them straight to it from the thank you page when they opt-in.

Which means you can make several new forms and several thank you forms.

Of course getting them to opt-in is usually better done through bribes. Your bribe can be the 7 deadly mistakes of (blank) video series. Could be an ebook or software as other folks have mentioned, just make sure it's some GREAT content (give away your best stuff is said more and more) and people will stay subscribed.

Retention and repeat customers from 10 people is better than 100 new customers who never return and ask for refunds.

Giving a FREE stuff related to your niche is the best way to build a list. Optionally we can integrate Paypal and Aweber with products. But customer hates this way.

As mention you have recently launch a new niche site and I presume building a list outside Internet Marketing.

If so I would like to know are there any offline local Experts in your Niche? Example: "Yoga Instructors, Driving Instructors, Acne Specialist ......

Do they have a data base of customers?

    Propose them a Win-Win Offer.

All the best and God Bless.

Offer other people in your niche a complementary product they can give away as a BONUS in exchange for their buyer's email address. If you know someone selling a product that complements your own, contact them and give them a product that they can give away to their subscriber/buyer and set it on a landing page. It's a win for everyone.

Manuel Washington has used many different techniques and methods through his 12 plus years of marketing. Finding ways to marketing your products, services of companies is easily found on putting in topics in the search engines such as Google. There are many people who have developed list not only in this forum but on their sites as well that they have used. Manuel Washington knows for a fact that just because a method or technique has been used for years that does not necessarily mean it is too at of date to be used into todays world. There are many that are still being used that are old and still bring in a very successful mailing list. Just remember that it is not the size of the list that counts, it is how targeted your list is concerning your niche. If you have a list of 1000 and only 3 sales come from it, your list is not too good. However, if you have a list of 10 and you get 6 sales from it then the list of 10 is more targeted than the list of 1000. It is Manuel Washington's experience that one of the best methods today is writing content in way of articles. But also engage yourself in a manner of not pitching, or as a salesman of a product, service, company, in blogs and or forums or in your articles themselves will suit you better in the end.Try becoming a helper, consultant, problem solver for clients and approach them in that method and get to know them. I buy things from people I know after they have built up a circle of influence with me.

The best way to build your list is to make people *want* to receive your emails....and tell their friends about it as well.

The best way to do that....provide value not seen elsewhere.

Ask yourself - what do *you* do that nobody else can replicate? Is your humor? Your insights? Your uncanny ability to find specially-discounted products your list readers would want to buy?

Do you offer a private Inner Circle? When people read your messages, are they left feeling sold to, or instead, are they left feeling like they're received helpful information that will help them make buying decisions in the future?

Answer some of the above for yourself...and you might get on the right track. I'm still fine-tuning it for me....
