Can I makea website with amazon in the domain name?

Plus a couple other keywords in the domain as well. Of course all the traffic will be directed to amazon anyway.

    No. I would think not.

Of course, you can always write to Amazon first - but I believe they are trademarked.

It doesn't matter that you are affiliating. Someone may misconstrue you as an official Amazon rep, which is different from just being an affiliate.

I don't recommend it. I had a domain name with an insurance company name in the domain, along with other keywords and I received a cease and desist.

I simply offered to turn the domain over to them but I wasted my time and money by taking the chance in the first place.

    It's against Amazon's TOS.

    From Associate's Program Operating Agreement:

    Unsuitable sites:

    f) include any trademark of Amazon or its affiliates, or a variant or misspelling of a trademark of Amazon or its affiliates, in any domain name – for example, a domain name such as <endlessboots.com>, <amaozn.com>, <smallpartsstore.com>, <amazonauctions.net>, <kindlemagazines.mydomain.info>, or <kindlewirelessreader.co.uk> would be unsuitable;

Not unless you want your Amazon account terminated.

This is from their T&C's :- (Edited for clarity) Unsuitable sites include those that include any trademark of Amazon or its affiliates, or a variant or misspelling of a trademark of Amazon or its affiliates, in any domain name - for example, a domain name such as <endlessboots.com>, <amaozn.com>, <amazonauctions.net>

Sure you can. Amazon is also a generic name, the Amazon jungle (which was there like a few hundred million years before Amazon.com).

Whether Amazon will let you be an affiliate, is another matter.

Ooh - that's a good point. Simply assumed the intent was as an affiliate!

To the OP - assuming this is for affiliate marketing purposes as an Amazon affiliate, you can do better finding some other domain name anyway. Good luck!

I hope the following experience resolve your doubt

      Amazon Trademark Infringement, Ooopsss...

It is better to stay away from brand names in domain names. Choose generic words for your domain name and target brand names in the inner pages.

      Eg: babycarseat.com/britax-car-seat

Many courses encourage you to put brand names in the root domain. These advices lead to account termination and legal problems.

If you plan to start a site about amazon jungle, No problem but you will be in trouble if you monetize it by amazon affiliate links.

You cannot even promote this book

I am not sure which course you are refering (certainly not mine) but I have yet to see a course promoted where it instructs students to register trademarks in domain names

I think what the synopsis is that you can use the word, amazon, becuase they do not control the word, but do not even think about selling Amazon affiliate products there.

When I first got online, and really didn't know anything I registered a domain with Amazon in the domain name. Think it was like amazonreviews.xxx or whatever.

I was wanting to promote Amazon stuff from the site and thought this would be a great idea! - How wrong ...

I did receive an email from Amazon informing me that my account had been in violation of their TOS and my account was closed. Rather than lose my amazon account I replied to the email and informed them that I was unaware I was in breech of their TOS. I also stated that I will never use the domain to promote any of their products. I put it down to a NEWBIE MISTAKE ! Thankfully they accepted it and I was able to continue on in my amazon career

Yeah, if you're going to do a site about Amazon Rain Forest or Amazon Warriors or something. Other than that, Amazon.com doesn't look kindly upon infringement upon its trademark. You may get away with it for awhile, but the risk is there to lose the domain.

Amazon are very protective of their brand name and if you regsiter Amazon in a domain name that is associated with Amazon.com or anything to do with physical products or anything else Amazon sells then you are asking for a not so nice letter not only terminating your Amazon account but also asking to transfer the domain.

You really don't need to use Amazon on your domain anyway as someone mentioned there are way better domains you could choose.
