Shhhhhh! It's a secret!

I have an unwritten rule that I don't buy any product with the words secret or secrets in the title. Has anyone else noticed that every IM product seems to divulge 'secrets'?

Most of my experience with purchasing such products is that they contain rehashed information anyway.

It's just one of those phrases that I'm sick of seeing and immediately turns me off.

That's why I love browsing this forum. There's so much information that doesn't need to be kept secret and is freely given. It's really a great resource and its always the first place I come to look for help for my online business.

I agree with you that there are many products which contains rehashed information. There is no secrets in this business as I think it is more important to applied the knowledge into the business.

This forum is indeed a great place as there are tons of good information that are shared by many nice Warriors

      *walks back in*

Totally bias coming from me, so I hope others agree, but it's just part of the marketing mix? I don't see what the problem is. There are plenty of words and phrases thrown around to make a product/service exciting and enjoyable and worthwhile.
edit: As ray put it, (despite in a negative light), that word is 'hype'. It's up to you to sift through hype and go to the facts. EVERYONE on here employs hype and sale tactics - otherwise the number of sales would be significantly lower, trust me.

This quote epitomises what I'm trying to say. Have you ever visited a website which is under development, and it's a new product, and it generates excitement by only giving brief details?

Think of a movie trailer - for big movies, the early trailers only show exciting scenes, without showing the plot.
      Later trailers show the plot.
It's the same thing, generating excitement, withholding the substance.

If that same movie has a trailer being very explicit about its' content, ie "John is an average guy. A crisis happens. He adapts to it. Solves the crisis. End of movie. That's it, folks", then no one would watch it.

Finally, some WSO's that have 'secrets' really are that.
Think about it - why would anyone reveal their profitable niche keyword? THAT, my friend, is a secret. I wouldn't hesitate to call a WSO "My Secret Niche Keyword with 1 million searches".
      It'd be totally appropriate.

I guess the rule isn't unwritten anymore.

George Wright P.S. If that is really your rule, you have missed out on some great stuff over the years. What? It's a secret

There's a whole stack of so called 'trigger words' that are supposed to get people rushing to press the order button. I'm no expert on these but I can't help wondering if people aren't becoming desensitized to them.

Personally I'm getting as sick of all the hype as I am of spam.

"Secrets" is kinda old school. It's kind of a giveaway of when you started. Same thing with naming your product "Insiders Guide To Quilting" or quiltingtips.com

My do not buy list is more general. Anything that is "Concept Name"+"over the top adjective" is on the list.

Have you noticed that a lot of the "rehashed" information is made up of things people should implement but they don't?

Have you also noticed that those things remains secrets to many people who buy the materials, because they will never implement them, and thus, never know what those secrets mean in real life?

Now this is a good post! This is true. It's like having a hammer, a nail and two pieces of wood. If you're given these things individually, and you don't know how to use them, they're useless. But if you learn how to integrate those three items, you'll get a bent nail, smashed pieces of wood and a hammer. (or two pieces of wood nailed together if the guide is good..!)

I like the word ‘Secret’. I think it is interesting and it entices curiosity. Perhaps the secret of using it in a wise way is doing something original with it, instead of merely stating that there is a certain secret that can be somehow discovered.

This word lost its mystery because so many people are using it without any talent.
