Marketing A Political Movement Online for Fun and Potentially Profit?

This is the short version.

People focused government =good.

Corporate focused goverment =bad.

A populist movement to end corporate dominance in politics would be beneficial to our society.

Social networking campaign/website focused on idea as core organizing place.

How would you market it?

Is this a political post cleverly (or not so cleverly) disguised as a marketing post?

Actually I'm genuinely interested in how people would go about marketing a political idea online.

I do think it only fair to let people know where the political leanings behind the idea are focused as it might inform how they would market it.

I also thought it appropriate to suggest the ideas I thought appropriate as starting points for marketing the idea.

If others thought there might be better tools to use, then I'm all ears, but I think informing them about the idea to a degree might influence the marketing channels and even the message positioning.

You probably should have skipped the first 6,000 words or so and just asked how to market a political idea online.

As for discussing the political leanings behind the idea, it's a good way to get the thread deleted as it will inevitably fall into a political discussion, which is not allowed on the WF.

I wouldn't actually. I have a personal blog with similar ideas, but don't market it. It's a political blog that allows me to rant to anyone who wants to read it. Would not have a clue other than Adsense on how to monetize it and don't want to.

But ... if you get enough traffic to any site, the advertising space is worth dollars, so you could focus on traffic and sell ads to those of a similar political persuasion.

I'm not so much interested in monetizing it myself at this point, but I am interested in marketing the ideas, with the hopes of the ideas growing into something beyond just ideas, so the real question is what methods would you use to to build initial traffic and after building an intial core of traffic, what would you do to grow a user base, socially or virally? I mean what would your "golden sticker" be for those who have read "The Tipping Point."

I'm actually thinking about spending money on advertising on sites frequented by like minded individuals to build a core audience. My thoughts are that the modern day equivalent of Tom Paine isn't necessarily a blog, but possibly the online political talk show, but this would be a different kind of political talk show in that it isn't necessarily liberal or conservative and isn't necessarily pragmatic either, but rather radical and advancing ideas that aren't being discussed by anyone in the mainstream, or even most of the alternative media.

It would definitely start at the extreme fringe, but begin to get people thinking.

The goal of building a core audience with a political talk show site would be to create a core group to power the growth of a social networking site that would focus on a movement to change the direction of the political discussion that is ongoing presently to one not controlled by the dominant ideologies of the day.

The social network may ultimately be monetized, as might the political talk show, just to sustain it's operations, but money isn't the primary motive. Memberships might be monetized through subscriptions and there might be monetization through advertising, but that is all secondary to the question which is how would you grow an audience and then turn that audience into a force?
