Expected 460x80 click through rate over .05%?

Is it just me? I haven't run a banner ad in a long time, and I just launched a new one on buysell ads and after about 40,000 impressions I'm at a CTR of ~.05%.

Is this typical? Should I expect more? Like is this a red flag that I need a better ad, or advertise on a different site?

    Definitely need a better ad. You should always have at least
    3 to split test with in the first round.

    Three radically different versions and then once you find the
    style that works you make tiny changes to keep making it better.

    I agree with Justin about testing... but be careful on buysellads. Be sure you've done your homework on the site's demographics compared to your offer.

    Thanks for the replies, I have a few different variations, but perhaps they are not really different enough. That is also good feedback to research the demographics of the site more than going by the description provided in the buysellads marketplace.

    You know, another question I would have is where is the banner on the site? Above the fold? Middle? Bottom?

    This plays a huge part in the CTR too. If you're at the bottom and visitors aren't even scrolling to the bottom, you're being charged for each one of those impressions even though they're not seeing your banner.
