ITS JUST NOT RIGHT I feel used and Abused LOL

Ok this has happened for the second time and it is starting to piss me off

I start promoting tools to my Membership that I use and i recommend them to my membership I promote them at every turn at the provided rate that the product owner provides.

Then my customers who only know about the product because of my recommendation, promotion, advertising etc contact me saying they wish to purchase, HOWEVER they have found a cheaper offer than through my Affiliate link and would love to order through my link but its much cheaper at this other link.

I go check, and low and behold the product owner is undercutting their OWN Affiliates
So I am working promoting their product to my members only to be undercut by the product owner I am promoting. WTF

So I contact the product owner to be told well that's a special not available for commission well Ok I can understand that but its a continuous special that never ends.

Now I understand that as a product owner I can sell my product for whatever the hell I want but do you really think it is fair to your Affiliates to be undercutting them when they are the ones out there recommending you.

If you have a special make it available to all your affiliates and have a cut off date and then revert back to the original price.

What do you guys think am I being unreasonable here to want to be on a level playing field when promoting your products at my expense only to be then undercut and lose my sale to the guy I was promoting.

I feel used and Abused

Sounds like you need to find a new product to promote... seriously. That's not cool.

Agreed. Competing is hard enough. You don't need competition from the product owner too.

Sounds like product owners that want affiliates to do all the work, but don't want to pay them. I wouldn't continue promoting a product if I were treated like that as an affiliate. Let them promote themselves.

      ^What Suzanne said.

Run away and never promote for them again. Find a better product and promote it to your list.

Thats horrible! It's basically free advertisement for them and you dont get commission. Lesson learned, now you know what you have to include in affiliate contracts.

Ask them to stop. If they dont, obviously you wont be making any money, so turn your site into a bashing their product site and let it go. Hopefully they'll learn their lessontoo. You shouldnt be giving them free marketing.

Ask him to set you up a special page that can match that price. I'd leave if they said no.

You can always find another product or go make your own and have it your way.

I did contact one and the answer I got was

I would be happy to assist further.

The discounted affiliate link is provided on a case-by-case basis and is determined by the guidelines set by the product owner.

Please give us an idea of how you intend to promote this discounted offer, where you intend to promote it, and the subscriber/member size you currently have.

        Thank you.

I guess I will wait and see what answer I get

If they're doing that now, what else are they doing that you don't know about.

I'd tell them to go kick rocks and promote someone who is more honest.

Stop sending your list that affiliate link. Either:

    1. Promote a different product, or

    2. Send them to the cheaper link directly.

The question is whether you are promoting this product because you make a commission, or because you truly believe it is the best choice.

There's no shame in either of those, just know which one you are doing, and your course of action is clear.

You can only be used and abused if you let people do it to you.

    1. If you are promoting things properly then it means this is the product you think ACTUALLY fits your customers needs the best. In this instance talk to the product owner and explain the situation. Whether they change things or not is irrelevant. You should still promote this product to your list because you should be worrying about your customers needs over any affiliate commissions you are going to receive. The commissions are just a nice little added bonus if you receive them.

    OR

    2. You are promoting this product just for the sake of getting a commission. Move on and find another product because clearly the quality of the product is less important to you than the commissions you receive.

    Well WillR and CDarlock

Both those links remain on my site and I already directed my member to the cheaper link to purchase rather than waiting on me to get a response from their support which takes 3 days to respond, and I do that because the product is good and will help them.

As for the other product that I had issue with a while back, that one still sits right on my members site for all to go to and bypass me and get the other product cheaper.

The one I was initially promoting never competed with me and was way more commission but their support for my Members sucked and and I decided to change because the new one did the same thing but was considerably cheaper for my members plus their support was good.

I changed that knowing commission would be cut by 50% but if it does the same thing and is cheaper and support is better then it was the right move.

I did not expect the product owner would be undercutting me but I continue to leave it on my site because it is the better cheaper choice for my members.

Now I am up to 2 products with owners undercutting their affiliates

I agree with both of you on your points, but what I don't agree with is the way the product owners are undercutting their Affiliates.

My members are the priority but at the same time I am a business and do not apologise for trying to make a buck also.

To me it is not good business to be Shafting your Affiliates no matter how good your product is

    Hmmm I don't think you're overreacting.

Seriously though, WSOs work along this exact process, yes you can sell your stuff for whatever you want as long as you offer the Warriors a better offer than youcan get elsewhere.

If his reasoning does P*** you off, just stop promoting his product. If enough do so then he's going to need to change his marketing tactics.

    Its a known scam.

Avoid the product owner and write a blog post naming and shaming these thieves, as thats all they are in my eyes.

So hell yea we like to make money but dam, this kind of practice is criminal.

If these crooks arent hiding the original pay button that includes affiliate encodeing then there doing some other shady tactic its not cool and I would not tolerate promoting there product.

My answer scrap them and move on they just are worthless lousy crook!!!

    Colin.

Yea, I've run into this. A similar situation that I've run into more than once is this. I find a unique product so i contact the manufacturer and get wholesale/drop shipping costs.

I go to ebay and see it being sold by the manufacturer directly to the customers for about the same price - or cheaper.

They really think through those wholesale prices

Gaz, I feel your pain. My very first venture into real IM was a catalog of fishing videos I bought at wholesale and sold online. When I started making steady sales, the wholesaler jumped into the act. He sold the videos direct for a buck less than he charged me wholesale.

I commend you for sticking to principles and continuing to recommend what you feel is best for your members.

That said, if the vendor won't do something to accommodate you, perhaps you can find another product or make the leap into providing your own version.

The best thing about affiliate marketing is you can always choose to stop doing business with them. It hurts to invest a lot of time, money and effort into something and have to give it up, but it sounds like that's your best path. I've had this happen to me in the past as well and it never works out well for companies that do this. They're usually companies that are in it for short term profit and go under fairly quickly once everyone starts jumping ship.

I feel for you man! One of the pitfalls of being an affiliate - stop promoting that product and find an alternative. Or try and get a better deal from the vendor.

This really is not cool at all.
