Yikes! Just spent $280 for a domain...

Was on GoDaddy premium listings, no idea when it went up. I'd say this is 28x more expensive than any domain I've ever purchased. Just had a gut feeling to get it and... did.

Think it has potential? Thoughts?

Thanks!!

Cool. Looks like I should list my domains on GoDaddy instead of AfterNIC. LOL.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

WOW man, I don't really want to discourage you, but you're entering a HIGHLY competitive niche, so pretty much you could have sort out a different keyword using - or . for only the usual $10 dlls, anyway, it has its pros and cons, the cons is the competitiveness and the pros are that you will actually take action now that you are paying 23.33333333333333 per month to maintain JUST the domain name,,, good luck man

    Very brave!
Competitive Niche, but the exact match keywords don't seem like they'd be that difficult to rank well for - you have a few months of work ahead of you for sure, but then I guess it would be worth it for the traffic.

Keep us all posted on how you go?

Good luck... Just hope SEO won't be your main driving force for traffic as that keyword will be hyper competitive.

    Good luck

    Competitive.

I think OP has potential in SEO skill.
So he bought an aged domain to beat them.

    Way to go!

    Good luck to you!
If it doesn't work out I guess you could always flip it or sell the domain on

I think that's a little expensive I keep reading that hyphens are a "turn off" for Google.

Good luck and remember never spend more than you have to on a domain unless it already has PR and Age...

I think it is an awesome idea!

    Go for it!

Good keyphrase I know because I have driven some sales with that keyphrase before.

Just look at it this way:

Now you have spent the money on it you will put the effort in growing your site!

    All the best,

I once spent about that much on a PR5 domain, a few weeks later it lost all PR.... I'm sure you won't do any worse than me

Fortunately I have learned from my mistakes

Thanks all -- I'm pretty confident about getting it to the first page, if not in the top 3 spots within the next couple months. Figured, gotta spend money to make money, we'll see where it goes!

Making such a cash commitment can be a powerful motivator, might just help you go the extra mile.

(I've heard creepy stories about godaddy raising the price of listed domains of it sees many searches for it in their interface.)

With that many hyphens it probably didn't matter as much if it was .com or .net, not great for branding or type-in traffic, supposedly a .net would seo as well.

Although the general consensus is that hyphens don't effect seo, at least one guru heard that google counts multi hyphen domains to gauge the effectiveness of junk filters.

I gave away a howloseweight.xxx domain that showed 11,100,000 broad searches after little success, another comment mentioned the competetiveness of the field, perhaps I bit off more than I could chew, (actually the local exact match was 74,000)

I just about 5 mins ago spent $400 on a domain that has no branding potential at all (has some PR and good age though )

Domains can be expensive if they have the right attributes:

    A) Brandable
    or
    B) Aged, PR and Ability to be beneficial to your other brands
