I am a student / entrepreneur with an idea for an innovative website geared towards finding and creating ideas. I have spoken with a credible VC firm that has agreed to help fund marketing and advanced development after the site up is up and running with traffic. My problem is that I do not know how to build a website like this, and I don't have the money to pay someone; It should be a fairly easy process to build. I am looking for someone to build the site in exchange for co-ownership. Unlike most websites the time consuming work will start when the site is running due to what it is we will do. I am willing to take on the entire work load once running, but the designer can be as involved as he or she wants. It is a really cool idea and I will respect any and all ideas on your part... Two minds are better than one. If you are not the person that can help me I am welcoming and appreciative of any and all advice, thanks. |

Hi Yeildsign, It will help your quest if you were to - a) be a little more revealing about your identity - bearing in mind you are asking people to take the time out from their other interests. An anonymous forum person doesn't inspire as much confidence as the alternative. b) mention what type of experience you have with this type of business - if you want serious interest, it helps to demonstrate your own seriousness - in other words, the better you present yourself, the 'better' your respondents are likely to be. I'm not suggesting you offer this information up front, but if it was myself, as soon as possible after first contact, I would be interested in this - Quote:
a) what 'help fund' means - precisely, and is it in writing b) what 'up and running with traffic' means - precisely. The statement implies that it doesn't have to be at all profitable to qualify for the funding - is this correct? Plus - c) how quickly do you project that the site is likely to be running at a profit? And by what method does it generate income? Those are the questions that would initially interest me. And the reason is because my cynical side wonders why they would agree to fund you when - Quote:

I'm only asking these to help you, I'm not asking you to answer them. I'm trying to forsee what others would be thinking. The (apparent) lack of knowledge, experience and also lack of ability to raise start-up funds would concern me. And they would lead to me wondering what would happen if you couldn't cope with the workload, but had no funds to expand/outsource - but that depends on the specifics of when the VC funding would kick in. How is the site to be promoted and where do the funds come from? To be blunt, ideas are ten a penny. It's all the other stuff that gets people going in the right direction - solid plans, funds, experience etc. But, I hope this helps and I wish you the very best of British luck | |||
