How Do You Design a .mobi Website

Hi Warriors,

I am in the process of developing a particular site of "interest" and it occurred to me that having a .mobi version of it would add to the user friendliness and appeal as all those with mobile phones and WAP browsers can also access it easily.

But I am stuck.

I have searched the forum here, but haven't found any information regarding doing this. So, I decided to lay my problem bare on the forum.

Does anyone know how I can create a .mobi version of my site? Any special software, programming languages, etc needed?

I would greatly appreciate your help.

Thanks a million in advance.

All the best to you and yours this year.

    Hi Muhammad,

Building a site for a cell phone, smart phone or small form computer is not any different than making a normal website, you just have to be aware of a few more limitations that normal.

Keep in mind that most phones have a smaller screen, and a smaller resolution, and that most mobile browsers have limited flash and javascript support.

You should be able to use any server side scripting you want (php, asp.net, etc..) as with normal computers, browsers don't care what's going on in the background, just what you present to them.

Here are some helpful links to start you or your developer on the right road:

When you build a site with xsitpro 2 it will create a mobile friendly version of your site automatically - no extra work required - it puts it in a separate folder in your upload and auto detects if someone is using a mobile device so they get the right version delivered to them.

          Thanks, Stanley.

I like that interface; it seems very user friendly.

Looks like you just got a subscriber, too.

          Thanks, Jim.

I have heard that XsitePro users can have a .mobi version of their sites created for them. The only problem is that I haven't really used XsitePro before. I usually build my sites with plain HTML, Wordpress or (most times) Joomla.

So, that kind of was a little problem for me.

Andrew, thanks for those resources. Looks like I am going to need a little education first before implementing my .mobi website.

As for my visitors, I know they-like any other site's visitors-are almost 100% unlikely to care about what is going on in the "kitchen", the finished meal is all they want and care about.

          Kindest regards.

Mark, I appreciate it all the same.

It seems one of the sites is actually "powered by" the other. That may explain the striking similarities between them.

          But thanks all the same.

Here is the link oops I see I need 15 posts here before I can post links. Ok just add the http stuff in front of the address. mobility.mobi No need to add www

The site by the way is fully compatible for viewing on small mobile screens and the beauty of it is that it adapts itself automaticly to being viewed on a desktop screen. Check us out.
