HELP!! Security Problem

Hi Warriors,

I have a problem, and don't know how to fix it. A red shield with an "X" on it has appeared at the bottom of my screen (where the windows show when open). Every few minutes, it flashes the message "you have a security problem" and a window opens trying to get me to run some type of virus scan. I don't know if this is spyware, but I have run my anti-spyware program and my virus scan, and it is still there.

Now, Windows Web Security is coming up, and in the browser it shows:

stabilityinternetscan.com/scan/index.php?affid=08100 (with http:// in front)

I don't know if this is okay to run or not - any help is much appreciated!

    DON'T RUN IT!

Boot your machine up in safe mode maybe and then run your regular antivirus to see if it can clean it up for you.

My sons computer did the same thing and he ran it and it has been hell trying to get it clean now

I had the same problem (not quite the same) a few weeks ago. I have windows xp pro, you may be able to do the same with vista, I don't know. I have a saved folder "virus cure" which contains:
Super Antispyware, MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, SpywareBlaster, Avast antivirus ( I suppose you could replace avast with your choice of antivirus), and CCcleaner.

    What I did:
    1. restart pc, DO NOT CONNECT TO WEB!
    2. turn off system restore, some trojans and malware will hide in here
    3. run SpywareBlaster
    Then
    4. run Super Antispyware
    Then
    5. run MalwareBytes Anti-Malware
    Then
    6. run Avast antivirus
    Then
    7. run cccleaner
    Then
restart pc, turn on system restore.

    Worked for me,
    James

Close all your programs, and run this Windows Live OneCare safety scanner: Free online tool for PC health and safety It's aMicrosoft site and will take a while to run everything (an hour or so), but it should identify the problem and allow you to clean at least some of it, if not all.

Then reboot and run it again.

Here's the issue, straight from Symantec:

      Downloader.MisleadApp | Symantec

In there, you will find the necessary removal instructions. Good luck.

sometimes those methods above dont work.

do you have a green and red or perhaps yellow shield icon on your desk top?
if so, locate the path of the file... then go to the folder location.

then go into regedit, and type in the name of the program.

once you find it, delete the reg folder or the file if not in a folder, however, make sure it's not a folder of a different name cos this might be in use by other programs.

keep pressing F3 which will try and find another association of that file.

keep doing this for all the other files or the name of the program.

then delete the folder from your windows explore

        ..
first, do a back up of your registry before doing the above.

        then reboot...

you should find that it wont appear again
