google dance question

I have a site that has been sitting halfway down page three for its keyphrase for a couple weeks now. I have been adding a little bit of content everyday and starting putting a little more backlinks to it somewhat aggresively earlier this week. at first it dropped on position and stayed there for a couple days and now it is on page SEVEN? i have heard of the google dance and have even seen some of my other sites do this but a four page drop in rank?

I know it is not "sandboxed" or else it would probably be completely MIA but i didnt think the google dance was as severe as a 4 page drop? maybe i am being a little paranoid. Has anyone else experienced this??

Yes, it is certainly possible for sites to have some extreme swings from page 1 to nowhere and back. This can happen for days, weeks or even months.

Continue to add quality unique content and a "steady" growth of backlinks (not blasts) and it will almost certainly eventually settle and gain better search position.

A four page drop isn't that unusual for a new site.

Sometimes new sites almost disappear without getting "sandboxed" but if you keep things fairly natural you should be okay.

Yup. Mine was something like this: Pg 1 -> Pg 4 -> Pg 1 -> Pg 6. Now it's sitting happily on the first page.

This happened to my secondary keywords, luckily, rather than my primary.

Don't worry about it. Just continue building more content attacking the keywords.
