How Much Should I Charge for Advertising?

So one of my many blogs has finally received it's first legitimate inquiry about wanting to advertise on my sidebar. Wahoo! Like a real blog button or banner advertisement!

I have noticed that some people would recommend $1.00 per 1,000 page views? Is that correct? My average CPC is $2.42. I also anticipate my page views to increase a lot in the next few weeks if my backlinking strategy continues to work (which it is so far!).

The site currently only has 8,000-10,000 page views a month, but like I said, I totally expect that to increase soon the way my keywords are headed. I mean in the past 2 weeks my adsense account has increased nicely. Thanks for any recommendations!

Hi there, I've been selling advertising on my sites and I love to use buysellads dot com but if you want to take care personally of the advertising then I should recommend you $1 per 1000 page views, or $10 per month.

Also you can search in buysellads sites like yours, and see how much they are charging for their ads.

    Good luck

No one should be offering you advice on what to charge for advertising without knowing what your site is about.
1 dollar per 1000 or $1 cpm might be good for them but not for you.
There are some niches where 10,000 page views can bring in $100 or more a month.
There are other that wont even make 5 bucks a month.
Do you run adsense? I usually run adsense first to see what cpm I can generate and then I sell the ad spots for 50% increase. So if I make 2 cpm from adsense I charge 3 cpm direct.
If your traffic is growing monthly, I would try to raise ad rates every 6 months or so.
You can do this until your advertisers push back.

Rev is correct. How could we make a suggestion without knowing what the content of your site is? A site that is about basket weaving will bring in a much lessor CPM rate than one about forex trading.

That's why I included what my CPC is so I thought that would substitute the niche without saying what my niche is. Or does it not? I'm still new at this...

Thank you Rev and everyone. I do think $1 is too little for my niche since my CPC is $2.42. Actually when I went back to analyze my CPC it is actually over $3.00 for just the one blog I am talking about. The 2.42 average is for some of my blogs combined.

The niche is in parenting but a specific parenting topic, very targeted. I own several "parenting blogs", this is just one of them.

No it is not the ones in my profile. I have too many to put in my profiles, lol.

I understand you are getting 3 per click.
How many clicks do you get for every 1000 views.
        This will determine your cpm.

For instance if you get 1 click per 1000 views at 3 bucks you would have a $3 cpm

If you can project the advertisers ROI on an ad campaign on your site, that is the answer to how much your adspace is worth.

If you don't know how to do this, shoot me a PM, I've got some good resources for projections.

Start out a bit higher but offer a discount for multiple months.
