Best Social Promotion Methods

I would like to know the specific social promotion methods that people use to get traffic to their site.

I have heard people say that Facebook is their favorite site for social promotion, but what does that mean?

Facebook Ads, Facebook pages, Facebook groups, Facebook news feed?

I get about two hundred unique views a day to my site from Twitter, and my second favorite social site is StumbleUpon.

I get followers from Twiends, then use Tweepi to unfollow those not following back, then use Twaitter to schedule tweets.

Please tell me what specific social promotion methods you use, and please go into detail.

    1. Post content that people on a social network would like.
    2. If a piece of content gets more attention on a site, then don't think there will be same response everywhere
    3. Get as many genuine followers/likes.

      Create a free report or video of great content and giveaway for a tweet or Facebook share.

      PayWithATweet.com and CloudFlood.com help facilitate this.

      Instead of using Twiends, I would suggest more targeted follows on Twellow.com for your niche. Start with profiles that have the highest followers and work your way down. Then cull the list as you are already doing.

      How people use twitter has really evolved. Less and less people are using it to follow streams it is now used more for DMs to reach people. But I would still syndicate your content to Twitter. If using Wordpress, you can use Twitter Tools plugin.

      You can also syndicate the content to a fan page using Networked Blogs or Hootsuite.

      If there could be a business interest in the content, connect your Twitter account to LinkedIn for more syndication of the content.

      Use Google reader to find great content from other people a provide commentary on your thoughts and position about the content.

    I'm still not getting the tips I want. I've heard many people say they get heaps of traffic from Facebook, and I know that people spend four times longer on Facebook than any other site. So how do I reach them free, or really cheaply?
