Why Does My Blog Optin Rate Suck

Hey guys

I need some ideas about this topic.

My blog optin rate is literally btw 1-2%.

I'm getting on average now btw 600-900 visitors a day mostly from google.

This is my url Blowtorch Your Belly Fat, Eliminate Belly Fat, Lose Belly Fat Fast

I rank for keywords all about fitness/fatloss etc...

Is this normal? It can't be.

Just seeing what you might think is the problem.

BTW the side bar optin and bottom page optin on each post was put in today and only 2 optins :/

I'd simplify the message a bit more to something like this....

Even though your graphics are nicely done... it looks a little bit too much like a glorified sales page. Try just having the opt in box and not the other ebooks on the same page. In each of your articles, you could have an anchor link within the body saying find out more about this topic here.... that would then take them to each of the sales pages as a direct connection to the article. You might also try having a sticky post on top that welcomes visitors to your site saying what they will find and why the site exists... to help educate others on how to succeed at what you did. I think your own story would be a great lead in to the following articles. Just my opinion, but since people are finding you through Google, you have to sell yourself first before they will give up the email!

haha I guess so. Just simple SEO. Nothing crazy, but it doesn't matter if I can't get optins

I would suggest using a popup with "helpful" but not "salesy" message in order to get the sign ups.

    A popup grabs more attention.

I have tried it both ways and I am getting way more subscribers by having a popup as opposed to a small sign up form on the right.

I do have a popup. It says this:

      Bulletts:

Delay when the pop up comes. You page loaded and without even knowing the look of the site a pop up appeared wanting me to put in my email n name?

Try testing different times which the optin menu appears.

With the traffic you're getting, just test and observe the results.

If you like what you see, then stick with it.

          Okay.

Do you think though that I should be getting naturally more optins?

Your blog optin rate is about average. You can increase it if you eliminate distractions. I suggest you check out some of those site reviews I've done with people like Chris Brogan, Pat Flynn, and etc.

Ok i think your optin rate is about average, someone has already mentioned that.

Forced optin, such as landing page, has highest rate - 10-40% depending on the niche, offer and call to actions etc.

Pop-ups is the next best, which also must have strong call to action and irresistible offer.

Lastly is the sign up web form which has very low optin rate.

When I landed on your website I did not see any pop up, I am using latest Firefox browser, i think you should implement it in a modal format (so that everything else in the background is greyed out but user can still close it), this converts very well.

You may try a popup type of optin box and also try putting in some bullets with benefits. If you are offering a free video with some hot secret you may as well test that in the headline. In the end you need to test to see the increasing results in optin rate. But cheer up you have the most important component which is traffic. Just test and test and eventually you are going to find the sweet spot without doubt.

with the pop-up, I think you should be doing better. I'd work on the wording of it, etc. Example: you might want to get rid the word 'excercise'

I also think that the header and general layout of the site makes it look more product pitch than source of good info. As was mentioned, it has a salesletter feel to it... and in my personal opinion that style of salesletter, while it has become common, isn't even optimal for salesletters

    hmm, what else...

    - I really wouldn't bury the testimonials. I'd put them on every page.

    - Your "before pic" in the love handle article isn't helping. I think most of your potential customers woud be very happy if that was their "after" pic!

    - while the cross linking between the articles is great for SEO, it's bad for conversion. Do everything you can to not draw attention to anything on a page accept your call to action / conversion point. This is just my experience, but the more people click around a website, the lower the conversion.

      Awesome stuff. Thanks guys.

So far I got it up another 1%. I cleaned up the whole blog. I still have the popup come up right away, but I am going to wait a week until I get a solid batch of numbers and then switch it back to 20/30 seconds to see what happens.

Then I'll implement the gray fade out as it pops up.

I'll do 1 test a week and see what happens.

I'll prob also test the optin graphic bar with different headlines.

I ,am new to this forum but I do have experience ,When I went to your blog the first thing that I saw was this giant obtrusive opt-in page

Let me ask you this way, "You go to google your looking for a way to hammer your bell fat and you see a blog ranking for the exact keywords your searching for ."GREAT" Now I ,am going to click on the link because you may have the info. I,am looking and before I see any of your content this big ol"pop up, holy cow ...

I don't want to hurt your feeling but give your traffic some time to wet their curiosity before you smack em' with that opt in page

Remember they will never opt in unless they want more of what you are offering.

Yes, I do understand what you are saying. My plan is to wait a week, maybe even just a few days cause I'm averaging 1000 visitors a day and change that variable. That is the next thing to change. Maybe I'll change it to 30-40 seconds instead of just 20

Nice, Don't push it back too much. You want most visitors to see the pop up before they leave.

One more thing... test positioning the pop up to the left (or right).

Why? From what I've tested it helps.

Imagine reading some nice content and some popup gets in the way.

I don't know about you, but my first instinct is to close it.

If you place it to the left the reader isn't as bothered by it, yet they still notice it.

Test it to see how it works.

        GoodLuck.

Good idea I wouldn't even had thought of that and it makes perfect sense. I was also thinking have it pop up when they are about to leave the site too.

You've got a pretty good-looking site, but I noticed that you've mentioned "FREE" twice in your opt-in box, plus you also have a page called "free stuff".

Lots of FREE. Free is good...when it serves its purpose.

But it's a bit of overkill to mention it three times. I think once is enough in your opt-in box alone.

Your site is already providing unique content and benefits to your readers. A FREE video is a perceived added bonus - that extra icing on the cake.

Just don't cheapen that effect by overemphasizing it. You want keep that sense of mystery about you that leaves readers wanting to know more.

Otherwise, I think you've got a pretty decent site.

    Hello!!!

This is the 6 figure question. lol...You really need to to test it, use Google Website Optimizer to set up 2 test pages (A/B Testing), and just start with the basic testing:

    1) Headline (even just a colour change)
    2) Picture
    3) Offer
Test over 100 unique page views each at minimum prob best to go to 1000 to get a real feel for the market and you will see one will convert higher than the other, then use that higher converting one as your new page, then test something else.

Typically this type of problem is either going to be a traffic prob or a conversion prob. I would say its a conversion problem (your traffic could be low quality) and you're going to want to offer something pretty compelling for people to opt-in on your list, as that is a big market and most buyers will be looking around. I think you need to make your offer more enticing, a free program is good but is there anything else you can offer with it? Ebook or tips? I don't care what anyone says the better content you can offer as a reward for opt-ing in the better your conversion, don't be scared by the "free" word. You will be selling stuff when they are on your list, but if they ain't there you have no one to sell to!
Test test test test...No one here will be able to clearly tell you exactly what you need to do mate, just visit: Google Website Optimizer

If you want to use a pop, I would change it to being a exit pop.

I would also go for a makeover of the copy in the present pop. It sort of lacks energy and conviction and scarcity.

At present, the site seems to offers the whole shebang for free which devalues it.
