New NameCheap $1.99 .com Domain Name Offer

For those that don't know NameCheap just started another "contest" to generate a $1.99 .com domain name registration coupon.

They need 10,000 likes to their Facebook page to "release" the coupon.

Here is the link for more information:

You could just go to 1and1 right now and get .com domain names for .99 all month long.

Thanks and is there any catch, have you tested this offer? is it really 99c cent for the first year and $10 after? I looked on their site but with all the additional stuff they trying to get me to check is confusing. Also is it really your domain? This whole thing feels iffy to me and I don't want them taking my domain from me if I register because of shady small print I missed.

        Namecheap do the same thing.

Three of my domains came up for renewal last month. I bought them at $8.95 last year.
They wanted £19.99 (plus VAT) each for one more year. That's $37.80 each!

Fortunately after a telephone call, they agreed to reduce it to a reasonable amount, though not the original $8.95.

Moral of the tale? Check the conditions when buying a 'low cost' domain.

        Cheers

I've renewed many domains with Namecheap and never had any significant price increase. Never seen a domain on Namecheap priced at $37.80.

            Hi Suzanne

Would I lie to you? Wouldn't dare. Straight up, the bill was for £71.96 (about $113.00), for one year!

Fortunately the credit card had expired so they had to email me before renewing the domains. I can send you the email if you wish.

I was shocked too - and pretty pi**ed off to boot.

Is that the same cigar? Must be soggy by now.

            Cheers

Yeah ... same cigar lol. What extensions were they? I was going to renew some .co domains but didn't because the normal renewal price for them is about $35, but I knew that when I purchased them at a discount the year before.

Yeah me too. Never had any significant price increase. Should be very careful during the registration process. Don't choose something that you don't need and that might make the price significantly increase on the next renewal.

      LOL ...

Yep you can. But just try and transfer any of them elsewhere down the road and you'll likely be put thru 1&1 domain hell (along with hosting hell).

Or you could just empty your wallet into a trash can and set fire to all the money - about the same as dealing with the 1 & 1 scammers but much more efficient.

I'll confess to having made the 1 & 1 mistake 6 years ago for several domains, after that experience I wouldn't get one from them if they paid ME the 99 cents.

NameCheap on the other hand is a reliable registrar and I have always been happy with them. Although I will have to say that this "coupon" is kind of bizarre, as we have to wait until they hit 10,000 likes before it is valid.

If you are in a hurry the code HOTNCOLD will get you a dollar off your domain registration at NameCheap.

I sent 1&1 two emails today for their exact policy with this 99cent thing after I bought one, they haven't responded yet but what's weird is they gave me access without even charging paypal...I also noticed there's no way for me to cancel my auto subscription, emailed them about that as well.

I just took the bait and registered a domain with them...used paypal and they forced me to agree to some crap prior, not the typical TOS but something about them being able to charge me over $200, idk, i'm already not liking this company though. It says they'll send me my login info within 24 hours...all other companies sent me my stuff instantly... I better own this stupid domain and not have some unforeseen contract where I have to pay for it, for like 10 years, or have the shammy stuff web hosts do where they give you a free domain as long as you continue hosting with them...

How much time does it take before the deal will be sold out do you think? Maybe I will develop a litte script that background-checks NameCheap every 10 minutes to notify when we're moving for 10,000 likes.

Ontopic: What exactly do you get for liking namecheap? only people who like them will get this discount?

Offtopic: I've heard about the 1and1 offer about a month ago and was just about to jump on board... when I decided to look for a "1and1 review", actually I was expecting to find only affiliate sites phrasing it. Not on first page there was a forum page with lots of people crying. So I went and bought from namecheap for the 9 bucks without looking back.

cashtree, you'll probably be ok, just be very careful with what you agree with, click on, etc

I've heard that 1and1 is a total nightmare. I almost fell for their 99 cent trap.

Namecheap, on the other hand, love 'em. Looking forward to the deal. They'll hit 10,000 pretty quick.

Not sure why everyone is hating on 1and1. I guess I'll either find out soon or not though. I've taken on 100 new domains with them this month after seeing the .99 special.

In answer to others about transferring and such.. I do none of that. These are for auto blogs and so long as it's .99 now and $9.99 next year.. all is well. The .99 charges have been going through with no problem so far. No extra fees or b.s.

They are slow though. Even getting their nameservers set takes some time. But after a few hours... everything works great.

And cashtree.. they are taking over a week to hit my bank account p/ domain so don't look to be charged anytime soon.

I have several domains at namecheap. I like them "pretty well" but not as much as cheapdomain.com. Nobody gets domains ready faster. I can register, set my nameserver change and go start building at hostgator within 5 minutes.

    AVOID 1&1...

I bought a domain with them and then I didn't it anymore so I just let it expire. couple months later I get collectors calling me telling me that I have to not only pay for the domain name but also pay collection fees and additional fees to 1&1...

I didn't pay and nothing happen... It's a pretty pathetic tactic to scare people into paying... Reminds me of those domain names of america letters that come in the mail asking for outrageous renewal fees

Never had that problem with any other registrar... 1&1 is a total scam. I can go on and on about the ordeal, it sucked!

Speaking about price confusion, does anyone know why the NameCheap Facebook offer says "Regular Price: $25.98"? Their site lists .com & .net for $9.98 a year and .org as $9.69.

In fact none of the TLD's I see on their site goes for $25.98. They do talk about free SSL and Open-XChange, but even those don't add up.

They were all simple .coms, nothing fancy. The $37.80 does include UK Value Added Tax, so the real price is 20% less.

Still pretty outrageous though, don'yt you think?

Boy, that doesn't sound good. It sounds like it is tied to this special offer, and that is what the price is going to be to renew. It is really too bad if Namecheap is moving in that direction.
