YouTube money making challenge

I've experimented with YouTube in the past, pretty much just using it as a secondary traffic source to my website, seeing as how YouTube is the 2nd largest search engine.

My first video was a flop, only getting about 8 views/day... but then I uploaded my 2nd video and it got 900 views in one day, then a consistent 800-1,000 views (up to 365,000 views now).

I uploaded videos every now and then afterwards, sometimes 4 in a month, then 1 every 2 months, I wasn't that consistent but still managed to build up to 4,500 subscribers.

It has been 5 months since my last video now on that channel, and I can't produce new content since I am no longer passionate on the subject matter. I still make passive income from the views though.

But using what I learned, I am launching a new YouTube channel and seeing how fast I can become a YouTube partner or get to 10,000 subscribers.

I'm documenting this journey on my blog, and sharing with the community what strategies other people use on youtube to get the most views/subscribers.

Do many of you try to make money from youtube? or think there's too much work involved to make income and you don't usually see immediate results?

Just to clear this a bit since I'm new to this. Correct me if I'm wrong here. You use Youtube to generate traffic to your site. The traffic gets you the money and not Youtube itself. Can traffic alone generates money? or is the residual income from ad exposure on your site? or is the chance that someone buys stuff and you get a commission?

The strategy I used was to somehow redirect the traffic going to my YouTube videos to my website.

I did this by creating an image, screenshot of my website with some text about the features of the site, and had this playing during the first 6 seconds and last 6 seconds of the video. I also had the URL of my site clearly displayed.

Add links to the info box as well.

Then when they are on my site, I had google adsense as well as affiliate products on some pages. But the main thing you need to do is provide value in the videos and on your actual website because you hope they will become a long term loyal visitor subscribe/share your content with friends.

Not the easiest method since you need to create original/valuable content consistently, but I believe taking this approach will always work if you keep at it and are genuine.

and how do you make income alone from the views? Do you mean from the views you get traffic to your site and converted to sales?

out of the 16 videos I have on that channel, I still get views which result in people clicking the affiliate links or link to my site in the description box. Also they see my URL in the video so visit directly to read articles and end up buying the products I promote.

There are other ways to make money off of youtube besides creating content... You can purchase other peoples channels and then put links on them to your site or offers (make sure they're relevant)

It is a risky thing to do if you aren't sure how much money to pay or how much you can make. Usually only people who've uploaded a couple videos and haven't used their account in a long time would be willing to sell their channels also.

This is a good way to drive traffic to our site without uploading video too. I have thought of it once but never try yet. Have you?

Yes, paid $80 for a channel with one video and make about $35/month from it, not a lot of money but if you can successfully repeat the strategy x10 or x50 videos you can have a very nice passive income source.

wow, that is quite good long time investment. For how long time your link will stay there for that $80? is it only for one video there? Have you tried advertise your link inside the video description?

I'm really interested in this subject, what did you change to have such drastic improved results? Also how much in a range were you making off passive income? I haven't made any youtube marketing videos yet, but definitely plan on it!

I focused on researching what people in my niche were looking for and no other videos existed for that topic. I saw a lot of people were searching for a how to guide on a tool used in a game, I made a tutorial on how to use it.. and it became very popular.

Search for keywords and ideas in your niche, create a helpful video and you should get views. Make sure they are titled correctly and explained in the description in the video with the right keywords (without being spammy)

You can never be 100% sure it's going to be a high rated video, but that is your best chances, I'm doing more case studies and research so I'll let you know what I learn

lets just say I was making enough for 8 months for it to pay the rent/food/entertainment. I was able to live off the income but I stopped playing and lost passion for the site/channel, which I shouldn't have let happen.

but it goes to show it is possible to achieve again.

You da the man! Thanks for sharing, this thread is very inspiring, every time I hear people talk about how hard, or how you can't do this or that, there are people like you who show it CAN be done, with just a little bit of focus, hard work, and drive. The spend their time deterring others for, you clearly spent yours achieving goals and for that I tip my hat off to you. I need to stop being lazy and really buckle down.

Well I am using video marketing for my blogs and website I use them all separately. Some niches work and some niches work. You really need to go for a niche that you are passionated about. That is to keep the motivation in. Just try to do it for fun first, the more fun you will have the more you succeed.

It will be great to follow you're blog as I'm at the early stages of testing the water. I have 5 videos and they are slowly growing in popularity. I've been holding back to see if it's worth while.

I have several videos that make me a decent amount of money, but one video that I have actually makes me about $200 a month! Not bad for about 30 minutes of work to create the video and then adding it to Youtube.

Id be really interested to read the blog on your new channel. I also make some Youtube videos and use them to send traffic to my site and some affiliate links. I make ok money, nothing great but I also do upload enough videos. But if I could learn some tips of your successes through your blog, it would interest me. Thanks for sharing!

I'm just starting a video marketing campaign. I've had some stray videos here and there and made nothing from them, but didn't understand the concept. I think, now, by concentrating (vs. testing the waters) my efforts here for 30 days, maybe I can drive some traffic to the links i provide. I'll tell you how it works out! Good luck with yours.

YouTube is priceless for generating business, however a generic movie maker text based video, a bland channel will rarely result in sales.

There's too many people that just assume that a simple page with a few videos is going to generate retrun on autopilot.

Channels need to be set up. They need to be appealling and they need to be maintained.

davidjames42973, does that one video go to your own website
or directly to an affiliate offer?
I'm just wondering if direct linking can work. Thanks.

You can make some nice $ with youtube. But you need to know what to do.

Your videos need to be targeted and useful. Also, you need to post your every video properly, so you increase ranking of yours videos.
