Can I Make Money With Weebly

by Rob-T
36 replies
I basically have no money to invest so I thought I might set up a free Weebly site about a subject I'm very passionate about.

What's the best way to monetize a Weebly site?

I already have some affiliate products related to my subject but are there other good ways to make more money? I've heard of AdSense but never tried it.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Any particular reason why you have decided on Weebly?

    Squidoo/Hubpages/Blogger are easier to start with in my opinion. For Hubpages and Blogger you will need your own Adsense account but with Squidoo you can get started without any accounts of your own at all (except PayPal).

      I basically did a little search on Google and it said that Weebly was ad free so I thought I'd go with that.
      Do the others prove to be better than Weebly when Google ranks the sites?

      I'm just looking to create a free site that looks professional and will contain decent content. I'm pretty good at creating logos and graphics but I just want a free site that I can write good content for and that is easy to navigate around.

      All the same ways that you can monetize a site with HostGator, JustHost, or any other professional host. Weebly is a host. Just like any other, except with a little in-built site-builder (which is particular easy to use and can easily make some really professional-looking sites).

      I think Weebly's a particularly good host and a widely undervalued one. I have several sites there, and recommend them highly.

      They're easier to lose, as well, and to join the growing band of Warriors who've had their sites their deleted over various very changeable TOS and policies/procedures issues.

      You can't ever own your own site at Squidoo, HubPages or Blogger, like you can at Weebly, Yola or Blinkweb. Which means you can't really own your own business safely.

      Anyone imagining that Squidoo, HubPages or Blogger is a safe way to start your own online business might care to read through this thread and many others like it.

      If that doesn't make you change your mind, nothing will ... and that means that sadly we'll have more and more threads like this one appearing on the board. :p

      This is just a no-brainer. Weebly/Yola/Blinkweb = safe. HubPages/Squidoo/Blogger = unsafe.

      That's nearly true, Rob - not quite. With the free version, they'll put a little button at the bottom of your site saying "Build your own free website with Weebly", and to get rid of that, you have to pay them something small to upgrade (which also then allows you 10 sites instead of 2). But you can do that at any time after you've got started and earned something. Weebly, in preference to Blogger/Squidoo/HubPages, is a very good decision for someone who wants to be in control of his own business and not subject to other people's changeable terms of service and arbitrary, inconsistent and unreliable decisions about interpreting them.

        Sorry to seem a bit dim but what are the best/main ways to monetize (I'm new to this)?

        I know about affiliate programs but is AdSense worth doing or are there any other ways I could implement?

          They're entirely different business models.

          The point I'm making is simply that "How to monetize a Weebly site" is no different from "How to monetize a site hosted anywhere else". There's nothing "specific to Weebly" that makes it any different - from the monetization perspective - than any other host. It's just whatever you want to do with a website.

          Personally I do affiliate marketing and not AdSense, but many people here do the opposite, some do "Amazon", some do "ClickBank", some mix different things together, and so and so forth ... there are many, many different ways to start in IM. Have a read around the forum. And good luck.

        Totally agree with Alexa.

        I have a Weebly site and I've made thousands. It's easy to set up a nice looking site. It's easy to manage. Customer service is good.

        The only money I put in at first (I upgraded to the pro account shortly after I built my website; it's pretty inexpensive) was for eJunkie (monthly subscription secure download service) for only $5 a month so I could sell downloadable products. If you don't have 5 dollars, smoke less, drink less, eat less, use less electricity (whatever you need to do to save a few bucks so that you have something to invest).

        Alexa is so right on. Weebly is undervalued. I still use it (along with Wordpress.org) for a site that has nothing but regional appeal, and a product that certain people don't even want but have to have. It has next to nothing traffic, I advertise with postcards to a few hundred people and I make maybe 1-2 thousand dollars a year. I may go months and not even touch the site. Weebly + ecommerce = mucho profit.

    I have had accounts with both Squidoo and Hubpages for 5 years and make good money from both every month. Of course the way to go in the long run is to own your own sites and I do that as well but the OP said he needs to start for free. I got a ton of first page rankings with Hubpages and Squidoo without any link building whatsoever which hasn't been the case with my own sites.

    Can't really comment on Weebly as I have never really used it.

    Weebly is very good to build sales pages with! I have used Weebly for this over one year now. It's easy and fast, but I'm not using Weebly as an host or FTP. I use to download the files and upload them to HostGator. Do you have an Pro account? I will recomend you to purchase the Pro package because you will get much value for it!

    I have read the posts and want to thank you for the question and all the Warriors for their input. From experience, I would be sure the site I chose was ownable. You will have to invest in your Business. There are no Free rides here worth taking.

    Spend some time here with the Warriors. They have great wisdom, have had experiences they will share so we may not make the same mistakes, and it is a good forum to bounce your questions and thoughts off of.

    Wish you the Best.

    Hey "Rob-T":

    Can you make money with weebly? Yes, b/c I have done it promoting an affiliate product. Did it happen overnight? Not for me. My guess, it took about 2 months to get my first sale.

    Writing something you are passionate about is an EXCELLENT way to start, or even do forever. (That weebly site I talked about above was not something I was passionate about so my landing page was probably poor). It is MUCH easier b/c it comes from the heart and experience. You know the terminology used. You know what turns your niche on AND OFF. All are important to connect with your audience.

    I don't know your niche but basically talk about the problem that made you buy your product. And how your product solved that problem.

    That is a GREAT landing page.

    If you're going to use Weebly, here are some simple SEO tips that should help with your rankings. How high? It depends on your competition and how much work you put into it. But, for starters, here's what you can do:

    *When you create your sites URL, you will have to choose a subdomain name. Choose YourKeyword.weebly.com For example, I just put up a test site targeting taylor made burner 2.0 and here is the Weebly URL I chose:
    TaylorMadeBurner2.0.weebly.com

    Taylor Made Burner 2.0 - Home

    *Bold, underline and italicize your keyword about 1 - 2 times throughout the article.

    *Use your keyword about 2-5 times for every 100 words (keyword density)

    *For each page, link to another page on your site with your keyword in the anchor text.

    *Go to the "Settings" Tab and under "General Settings", put your keyword in the Site Title field. Go to the ".....SEO" section and use your keyword about 1-2 times.

    Write about 5- 10 keyword optimized articles and put them on your weebly site. Social bookmark and Pingler.com each page when completed. This is for some back links but more so that they get indexed in Google.

    When they are all indexed, submit the same articles to ezinearticles, goarticles, articlesbase, and a couple others of your choice for more backlinks (and a little traffic if you're lucky). Do some blog commenting, relevant forum posting, guest blogging, and whatever backlinking strategy you want to do. The more diverse, the better.

    If you are new this may sound like a lot and totally foreign. But, there is the learning curve, like anything else, if you want to learn how to rank a site.

    I mentioned this before but I'll say it again and hope you and others will find it helpful. The best would be to find someone who has a large following of your target audience, i.e. a site getting lots of traffic or a list owner, and offer to write for them in exchange for a link back to your site. The hardest part is having them to work with you.

    Either way, both approaches require work since you don't have money to pay someone to do it all for you, or better yet, find a site that's already making money and negotiate a "good" deal. But, that's another topic.

    Hope you got something out of this. Good luck and remember, you can NEVER FAIL if you don't quit!

    Wait until they get indexed. with your keyword as the anchor text in the article (in the resource box). Submit them

    If you have no money to start try free blogs like Wordpress or Blogger. Change the theme to maximize adsense earnings and add amazon products. Then you can purchase some cheap Backlinks as you get some cash. That is the best way that I have found to earn money with free blogs.

      This is exactly the mistake made in the past by so many Warriors who have lost parts of their businesses and kindly advised others here - in so many other threads, some linked to above - never to do the same. At wordpress.com no form of monetisation at all is allowed, and with Blogger there are all the problems, lack of security and unnecessary risks referred to above, and in so many other threads.

      That's perhaps because you're not aware of all the other ways it can be done, equally free, but in ways in which you own and control the site yourself; such as ...

      (i) Self-hosted Wordpress blogs on free hosting at byethost.com (long-established, highly reliable, professional hosting - free of charge);

      (ii) Self-hosted Wordpress blogs on free hosting at 000webhost.com (with C-Panel - easy to install Wordpress there);

      (iii) Weebly sites/blogs (two are allowed free of charge);

      (iv) Yola;

      (v) Blinkweb.

      There are many more, too. All of them are free and they avoid all the risks of Blogger (and Squidoo and HubPages) and all those other sites which you can never own yourself.

    I would suggest getting your own host and domain.

    I wish I had bit the bullet before and actually did this and then you KNOW that you own all of your content and although slightly harder to get to grips with you can always start with Wordpress until you know the ropes.

    Whatever type of blog or free site you use, it would be pretty much the same as the others -

    affiliate marketing, advertisements of services you offer, etc.

    Some networks like Hub Pages have stricter rules about affiliate links (they make you split adsense and amazon earnings with them, about 50/50. sounds a little harsh but its their site).

    Getting back to the How part - AdSense it by far the easiest way to get started. Because it doesn't need as much effort as affiliate marketing, for example, it leaves you free to concentrate on writing good content and promoting your site.

    That will bring the traffic you'll need to be successful no matter which revenue stream you eventually settle on.

    You can always experiment with other ways of making money later - but traffic is the first step.
