What is a good conversion rate for a salespage?

I have a review site that makes me a nice some of money every month. But I am always looking to improve the performance of my sites.
For the moment 1.5% of my visitors buy a product through my links.
Is that a good conversion rate? Is there a certain average or a 'magic number'?

It varies on the site. I've heard of some people getting 15%, but that doesnt tell you how many visitors their getting. But I'm sure there are always ways to increase your rate

I heard someone that statistically one in 100 converts. So if you try 100 potential visitors, only 1 will buy.

It varies on the site and the niche - I have had as low as 1% conversions and as high as 30% conversions.

I normally don't release a product or sales page until I have at least 4% conversions.

How exactly do you go about getting conversions before releasing a product?

1-2% is a good number to aim for, you're doing well

Remember that it's also to important to think about the refund rate. You might recall those hypey clickbank "push button software that makes you $9,999 in 1 second" sales letters that were banned because of their absurd refund rates.

It definitely varies, but it largely depends on how much it costs to get that traffic to your site. If it is organic and costs you no time or money, then I'd think 1.5% is a good rate. Depends too on how much the conversion brings in. But for reference, many of my sites get 1% conversions, so 1.5% is pretty good. IT's hard to say without more info.

All the traffic is organic. I have about 200 unique visitors per day. I sell products from clickbank and cj.com. But I only sell products I have tried myself. I'm building an authority site, so quality is important to me.

I also track statistics on all pages. One page converts at 18%, but unfortunately this is only for a $5 product. But I'm still happy with it because it makes some good money .
When I exclude that page from the statistics (it throws them off to much) I have an average conversion rate of 1.5%.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to improve conversions, feel free to share

Your conversation rate if good at the moment. You may take up to 5% with improved content, better visualization and efficient customer service where required.

1-2% for targeted (yet unmotivated) traffic is generally considered to be pretty good.

10%+ is usually for a sales page, with GOOD copy.

I agree you could probably up your conversion rate... either tweak your keywords and focus on 'buying' keywords as opposed to general ones (if you haven't already)... put some compelling ad copy anywhere you can... talk about benefits, do a review... you know, all that jazz

    Good luck though buddy

    EDIT: Just remembered the Triangle.

To earn more money you either:

    1) Increase Traffic
    2) Increase Price
    3) Increase Conversions

Might not be relevant, but always something worth remembering

I think 1.5% is good if the traffic is targeted and they need what we sell on our website. but maybe you can be increased further to 2%, with sales page to make better use of good copywriting.

I think 1.5% is good if you have targeted traffic, if you possess the visitors that really fit with what you are selling it very enjoyable.

If you wish to can also increase the conversion of 2% more by increasing your sales page copywriting.

There is no magic number, some people say 1 in 100, at what price, what quality, and what type of quality prospects, there are a 101 things that make up a conversion rate, in my opinion and in today's market place its content content content all the way, the more you give away the more you will make, sounds strange i know but true.

well it depends on the pricepoint..

    1% on $397 is awesome!
    1% on $47 is average
    1% on $9.97 is poor
1% on $5 is like trash..

    So,yea.. i say we need a pricepoint :-)

To me that says you've hit on product that has a market, but those conversion numbers aren't a home run yet. Keep split-testing different sales copy against what you have now, and see if you can get it higher.
