Building a customer base

I have been doing design with photoshop and html for about 5 years, and in the last 3 years I have built several php/mysql sites. For example, I made the templates section on the phpLD website. Because I live in a poor country, sometimes I think people don't take me seriously. Even if I make $5/hour, that is great money for me. Anyone have any suggestions of how I can more often talk to potential buyers that might hire me?

Spend the $47 on a war room membership, then spend the $20 on a warriors for hire ad. Every single time you bump it to the top for another $20 you will have more work than you can probably handle.

Hey Benjamin, I think the War Room only costs $37. I could be wrong but I recall that's what I paid. Just wanted to clarify that because $10 can be a lot of money sometimes.

Hey falconlink, you should be able to find some work either on this forum or even another outsourcing website. There are many of them out there. I believe Elance, Guru, Odesk are some of the big ones.

I really don't think what country you live in will make a bit of difference to the person hiring you. If you can provide a good service you will do well. If you really ramp up the promotion of your service, you will be well on your way to making MUCH more than $5 an hour!

      All the best,
      James

I didn't realize it was only $20 to place an ad. that sounds like a pretty good deal. Right now, even $47 is an investment for me, but I am going to work hard to find some leads here and elsewhere, and hopefully I can be a full member here. I appreciate any and all advice, as I am motivated to finally have a real customer base.

You have to be a war room member before you can place an ad. However, once you place an ad it never expires. The great thing is you can bump it to the top of the list anytime you want for $20, so if you need a little extra work you can bump your ad and it will start to roll in again.

      Good Luck!

You should promote your services to people that are already offering offline services and since you say even $5 per hour would be good for you I am sure someone will partner with you.

If they are already offering services and your income needs are fairly low then they will be able to offer a valued service to their clients, you will get paid and they will make a little too.

      Marketing is always about positioning.

Position yourself with other successful people and success will come to you too.

$5 per hour, not a day.

I bet something like Fiver might be good with a little direction as to something falconlink could offer. Something like "I will validate your HTML so you have a perfect score" or similar.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

I second dvduval, gig sites would probably be a great way to build customer relationships. I've been able to land working relationships with a few business owners through Fiverr. A lot of people understand that it's a great place to test and then hire people to outsource ongoing tasks.

I would advertise your services in the services threads here (as previously suggested) and your signature. You can JV with people. A good way to drum up business is to offer free reviews in exchange for honest testimonials or just to show clients what you are about.

    Good luck!

I'll bet he could do pretty well with Fiverr. I have been talking to him and I am thinking maybe he just needs someone to write some good sales copy for him. His work is pretty awesome, but sometimes you do have to explain things twice. Other than that he really is good at a number of things.

  • Charge more. Seriously.

People will pay for quality, and those are usually repeat customers if you can deliver.

Give charging say $15 an hour a shot and see if you get more serious leads.

I 'd be interested to see what you can do, because I am looking for people to build a few hundred websites. Do you also work with HTML5, videos, JQuery? Eg. I need to redesign and rebuild Tubee since phpmotion is not what I'd like to stick to. I 'd like to create my own open source tube freeware, so people like you could create and sell templates, themes or even fully functional websites for sale using my open source and content. I produce wildlife videos myself, so filling a tube with content wouldn't be a problem.

    @ HN

I make static and dynamic websites on html and php platforms with MySQL. Also link to design and code for various templates. I work basically on raw php files.

    My latest 2 large projects-
    uniqletts.com
    templates.phplinkdirectory.com
I'm sorry, I can't send you live links.

I use javascript, ajax, jQuery while I need on the pages.

Let me know more if you have any questions.

    Thank you.

If your design skills are really good, you could try approaching those Clickbank gurus and asking them for work. Some of them pay very well. And you could even ask them to refer you to other gurus. There's a launch almost every day and they'd definitely need graphics for their sales page...

Start a website offering services then do the SEO work , promote it (adwords , facebook).
If you don't know how to promote corectly through those 2 find a course and do it well couse you don't want to spend more then you should.
I think is a good way to start something on your own mate.
