Email marketing is just about giving valuable information and including offers for products every once in a while to complement that valuable information you send. That's it in a nutshell.

Start with creating 7 emails that will give the people in your list value. Stuff they want to read and look forward to getting. You can include links to your site to watch videos, or articles, or just put the content in the emails.

Think of something you can give away for free, like an ebook, video, video series, pdf report, etc and use that as your lead magnet. Then start building a list by putting an optin form on your website offering the free product for their email address. Once they optin, they will start getting the 7 emails you created. You can use a service like aweber or mailchimp to send the emails.

Very good and concise description of email marketing from zero.

What many people forget, is to have a few emails ready to send out when you get your subscriber's sign up.

The first one should be a thank you and welcome, with perhaps a free bonus of some sort. This is a start to creating the goodwill with your new potential customer.

Do not start sending links to affiliate products immediately. They will unsubscribe pretty quickly, thinking you're a spammer of some sort.

Be nice, be friendly, be helpful - before you attempt to start selling anything. Try to gain long term customer loyalty.

BEWARE OF MAILCHIMP. Although it's avery good email marketing service, they have very strict rules on the use of your lists for affiliate marketing (and several others). Check out their terms carefully first.

If it's a free service you need, Listwire is very good, and always free. You do need to fiddle about with the opt-ins to fit Wordpress sites though.

      Cheers

The one thing to keep in mind is that you are
building a relationship and you should treat it
    that way.

There are real people behind those email addresses
(for the most part, lol) with real problems. You
will get some responses to your messages and you
    will start to get questions.

If you choose to ignore your list members when they
ask questions then they won't stick around for very
    long.

I have to agree with Rien that you need to realise you are dealing with real people.

It is therefore crucial to keep this in mind when creating your 'mail-campaign' as well as most will see right through a 'pushing for sales' approach.

'Feeling your customers pain' and providing solutions to that pain needs to be done in such a way that your clients will feel that you have their best interests at heart. This in turn will build their trust in you and increase your chances of conversion when you recommend programs, products, etc to them further in the future.

You want to create a system for:
    - Collecting the contact details of prospects who visit your website
    - Converting prospects in to first time buyers
    - Bringing people back to buy again

It would be a great investment if you looked ARM Autoresponder Madness.
It's hands down the best course I've done on email marketing.

    A critical skill to learn

I've used Aweber for a while now and I really like it. You can use it to create a form to put on your website and then within the Aweber site, you can create the emails to automatically go out to those who subscribe to your list.

A good way to get started in list-building is to give something free in exchange for a person's email address. A free report, informational video, etc. that you've created, relevant to your niche. You can deliver the downlowad link to the report in your first auto-responder email via Aweber, then follow up with more emails (you can set the delivery interval in Aweber or whatever program you choose).

Like others have said, it's important to build a relationship with your readers and give them great free content. Then when you get ready to pitch to them, they will know, like, and trust you.

You need to have something unique and that has value to the people in your niche.

You need to treat any subscribers with respect because they are real people and will only buy from you and stay with you if you are good to them. So offer regular information and/or gifts that they cannot get elsewhere.

Do not send them sales email after sales email. I would suggest that you at least balance it 50/50 if not more in favor of great and valuable content.

And don't cover your squeeze page with loads of bulls**t testimonials. I don't think anyone believes them anymore.

    Good luck.

Before you start email marketing, you need your business strategy thought out.

    WHO will you be helping?
    WHAT do they need?
    HOW can you help them?
    WHERE can you reach them?

Anything else is like putting the car in gear without knowing your destination.

    Something to Remember:

When Is It Okay To Sign Someone Up For Your Company Newsletter?

When they’ve told you, through a double opt-in, that they want to receive your newsletter and get updates about your company.

Got it? Because there is no greater way to piss off your customers/potential customers/people who used to be your friends than to sign them up for something without their permission. You invade my inbox with your unsolicited nonsense and you shouldn’t look too surprised when I show up angry at your front door.
