Someone is abusing my e-mail... What to do?

Hi! I have in the past noticed that someone is abusing my e-mail. They are signing up on different squeze pages, offers etc. But for what reason? They can't access my email...

I get tons of email each day because of this, and it's very annoying!

Is it possible to stop this? I don't want to create an new e-mail account.

If they are signing up it might just be they have a very similar address to yours, this often happens at gmail yahoo etc... most signups will ask you to confirm your optin.. just ignore the email and send it to trash

This is a prime reason why double optin is a good idea, if the list owner has used double optin then you would just delete the email and it wouldnt get added to the list. And the abuser would'nt get his free product download

My only thought as to why (if you havent upset someone) is that they want to get to the download pages for free products without getting thier own email on a list. If the list isnt double optin then adding your email to the form and clicking send will take them to the download page for the giveaway.

Ya, double optin is a safe option both to protect your product and to keep away from being associated with spam.

Usually things like this are the result of a malicious prankster, it has happened to me before with personal email addresses.

Unfortunately I was forced to create a new account each time.

Why would anyone lose time just to stuff your inbox? Maybe you belonged to a list that was sold and resold.

Could just be some brain dead idiot with nothing better to do.

You may have to register a new email account, but it's very annoying all the same.

        Cheers

That is very annoying. Can't you mark all those emails as spam?

Odds are that your email ended up on one (or more) of those "1,000,000 email addresses for $99" type spam lists. You could try blocking each sender as they arrive, or setting up filters to automatically delete additional emails from that address.

I have one email address I've had since 1996, and it's been on several of those spam lists. I run emails to that account through Gmail's spam filters, then set up rules to delete based on subject line or a bit of text in the body (like the url they want me to click). Some still gets through, but it's manageable.

Direct them to spam. Changing your email feels like someone has stolen a part of you. Direct them to span and hope they get tired of it....someday....

i have a generic name email with gmail, and apparently, all the other suthan's in India and UK thinks that its OK to register to sites using my email..

So, it has been a normal routine for me to delete off random university registration, driving test confirmation, (sometimes very) personal emails and even matrimonial offers on a everyday basis!

    I feel your pain.. :-)

If they are signing up to list in order to get
emails sent to your account then they are
working harder than you and should eventually
    pitter out.

I would give it some time and see what happens
before you decide dump that email address.
