Which article strategy? Quality or Quantity?

Hey,

I've read several different strategies on here for writing articles.

Some, like steve waggenheim, seem to write like a machine.

Should I focus on writing LOTS of articles, or just writing one awesome article every day?

I ask this because it tends to take me a while to finish an article, and I'm just looking to write enough good content to bankroll my modest living expenses and provide some seed money to get my online business going, advertising, etc.

To be honest you're going to need lots of quality articles - so quantity AND quality. I'd suggest more than 1 article a day (to start with anyway).

It depends. I always recommend quality; however, if you do a backlink campaign to your articles and you focus on manageable competition (100,000 or less) you don't have to be a "human printing press" in order to benefit from your articles. You'll be in the top spots of the Search Engines and you won't have to write hundreds and hundreds of articles in the hope that a few of them will get you good traffic, OR in hopes that the traffic from ALL of them get you good ROI.

Good quality + Backlinks is where it's at, IMO. That's how I got my ONE article to page one on Google out of more than 13 million competing websites.

I always preach about quality over quantity, and quite frankly, there are too many reasons why for me to type here.

It may be true what Angela says (above), but as a directory owner I want good quality stuff...so maybe I am a bit biased. LOL

In all actuality, the combo is the way to go. Write as many as you can while maintaining the quality and you'll be very excited about it sooner than you may think. And it gets a lot easier once you start seeing the results.

      Short and to the point.

      You need both.

There are many factors that go into an article marketing campaign being
      successful.

      1. The quality of the article itself. If people don't read your article or start
reading it and think it's crap, they won't finish reading it which means they
will never get to your site from it. This quality includes everything from the
title of the article to the end summary and resource box itself.

      2. How many articles you write. Some niches are very competitive and a few
articles aren't going to cut the mustard. So you need quantity.

      3. Your landing page. The page you send people to, whether it be a blog,
sales page or whatever, has to also be of quality and has to be what the
person is expecting to see on the other end. If they wind up at a place
that doesn't meet their expectations, they're going to go elsewhere.

      4. The niche you're in. Some niches don't perform well with articles for
a variety of reasons. Maybe the market is looking for free info. Maybe
there just aren't that many people looking for that information to begin
      with.

There is more to article marketing than just submitting an article to a
      directory or whatever and praying.

Well, so far I have to agree that I think it is both quality and quantity. I did get one sale from only 5 articles and I am getting great CTR but I need more articles to get the sales that I need.

I have been starting with writing at least 6 articles a day, at the very least and try to get to about 10. Set an attainable goal first and then try to increase it a bit every few days.

The more you write in that niche, the faster you will get because you will really start to get familiar with it, without compromising the quality. That is what I am finding anyway.

Quality content goes a long way. Some content is not good and you will get links, but you want them to persist throughout time. If the content is good, it should be readable over and over again and still provide a benefit to the reader.

If you get domain name using a keyword with 100000+ searches per month, this would be very cool. Then you can use a combination of quality and quantity to write articles. Remember use the anchor text back link for you highly searched keyword.

    Depends on your strategy.

If your aiming for traffic directly from the articles then quality is at least as important as quantity. Visitors won't check out your link unless they are impressed or interested in hearing more.

If you just trying to generate backlinks to a content site for SEO then it's much less important - especially if you are submitting to smaller article sites.

I'd have to agree it is both quality and quantity. You can get higher sales within only 5 articles and I am also getting great click through rate on 5 at the moment, but I also need to generate more articles to get the sales and quality I need. As a goal, I've made myself write 6 articles a day and I'm steadily increasing it to up to 10. The more you write in the niche that your interested in, the faster you can generate quantity articles without compromising the quality. A win, win!

If I had to pick, I would say quality. As soon as I start reading an article that is badly written I will surf away from the site, so not good for retaining traffic.

How many articles do you guys write per day? What results do you get? I know it varies wildly but i'm looking for a ballpark.

    Thanks!

They are both very important. I would say at first you need to focus on quality.

Find a formula that is consistently bringing you a high CTR and then replicate the process in order to achieve the best results. Pumping out 10 articles a day won't do you any good if you don't have a system in place in terms of the structure of your articles.

I'll toss in a vote for quality over quantity, if a choice must be made. Obviously the ideal is writing a lot of high quality articles, but that's not a skill many possess or have the capacity to develop. Maybe you're one who can. If you can do both, the sky's the limit.

I confess to being lured by the quantity argument a few years ago. In one niche I probably submitted 50 ho-hum articles (not bad, just not high quality). I got some link love and traffic, but nothing to get too excited about. Then, honestly just because the mood struck me, I took the time to write a very in-depth article on a subject in that niche. This was all in 2005, so about 4 years ago now.

The comparison isn't even close. That one high quality article that took me probably a full day in terms of research, writing, then several edits and rewrites, continues to bring my site visitors every day. I only rarely see a visitor coming through any of the 50 ho-hum articles I wrote for that site.

The lesson I took from this is that quantity might be preferable for short-term traffic gains, but the long-term punch of a genuinely high quality article far exceeds the short-term loss. Keep in mind this was one niche and a small number of articles (in the big scheme of things). I wouldn't take this as gospel, by any means. But it did convince me that my time was better spent working on fewer high quality articles vs. playing the numbers game. Again, if you take the long view. It's perfectly valid to focus more on short-term gains, and if so, I'd advise going for numbers.

Good timing for this post, I just a launched a website. I decided to go with the quantity strategy (primarily for link juice), so far I have around 60 article in ezine articles within the last two three weeks.

Its too early to draw a conclusion but I should say the site which I started off with 10 highly targeted articles did well compared to this one.

      Just my experience.

      Cheers

      • You need both.

I would never suggest putting out crappy articles. Just like with anything in business if you're going to do it do it RIGHT. Take the time you need and make them your best.

However, you are going to need a lot so just get in a rhythm like 2 or 3 a day EVERY DAY even when you don't feel like writing. And you should be all set.
