How to capture leads without giving away freebie?

Hello,

Anyone agree to say that list building is a must-to-do in any kind of business. However online the only we know (newbies) to build a list is to set up a 'squeeze page" where you give away something for free to people, and the result is that you get not so good leads which means you get freebie seekers and few buyers.

So Id like to know if you guys know an other way to get lead's infos without giving away anything.

Is this doable and would you mind sharing some examples?

Thanks a lot.

That's a good idea but what if you are an affiliate? You do not own content but I agree that it's a really good idea thanks for sharing.

On one of my blogs I have an opt-in form that just says "Sign up to receive updates". One of these days I'll offer an incentive to sign up but I just haven't gotten around to it.

Anyways I got like 20 subscribers that way. So it's possible...

      Dan,
Your approach may work depending on your niche but I would wager
that your optin in rate would be a lot more substantial if you gave something
away for free. Something valuable anyway.

The problem these days is that a lot of freebies used to entice optin activity are generic and therefore useless.

Good luck with your IM monetary projects.

Your contents will speak for yourself. If you have something that people want, you can get leads without giving away anything.

Find a PLR product that you can buy for a few dollars and create a report out of it that you can sell for $1. That way you avoid the freebie and get a list of paying customers. It will need to be multiple pages and have some valuable information or people will not pay a whole lot of attention to your email marketing and probably unsubscribe.

But if you spend a couple of hours putting something together like this, you will have a valuable piece of information that people will be glad they spend $1 on, and you can have links to other affiliate products in the report.

I am working on a product to sell in the $9 to $17 range - I am making it as full of value as I can including high quality video and ane-book manual (its nothing to do with IM or making money)

I plan to get affiliates and IMers to offer it to their lists and to offer 100% commission on the sale. The niche is very speciifc and if the subscriber buys this shorter product they may well buy a huge product I am planning to build which I plan to sell for $2000+ with further upsells from there.

You dont have to give all the commision to your affiliates if you dont want but it is a good way to get buying subscribers on your list

If the website is useful/interesting enough, I almost always click on the "Become a Fan" if they have a FB Page - even though there's generally no freebie being given away.

    Hi Josh
You are absolutely right when you say that building lists is VITAL to most forms of IM, such as Affiliate Marketing. It's a priority, and perhaps is worth a little investment, although not necessarily.
I would, however, strongly recommend that you INCENTIVISE people to sign up/subscribe, and the best way to do this is to offer something of value/useful to encourage that.

Of course, you will get a percentage of 'freebie hunters'. Sometimes even I only want the ebook/video course being offered for subscriptions. If it's about the subject I'm brainstorming (say, Traffic Generation), then there's normally a few nuggets to benefit from it (unless it's total garbage of course).

To quote your post, "which means you get freebie seekers and few buyers'.

Ignore the freebie seekers of course, but as you said, "a few buyers". A few buyers is better than no buyers. You could possibly even convert freebie seekers into buyers. It does happen.

You will definitely get a higher subscription rate, and even if your blog/site is brand new, and containing little content, a perceived value give away can start building your first prospective customer lists. One of the best known IMers is Chris Farrell, who is well known and well respected worldwide. The one singular message he repeats time after time is, "Build A List".

If you're tight for cash you can always use a free autoresponder, such as Listwire. The cost savings oevr using, say Aweber, could easily finance a few GOOD PLR products to use in your opt-in/squeeze page.

    Hope this is some help
    Cheers

You should consider better your proposition of not having freebies seekers on your list if what you offer is of great value.

For example; I know that somethings cost money, but I don't buy from everybody.

I have joined dozens of free offering sites. I am a freebie seeker but only to see if it is worth the money to buy whatever that affiliate program has to offer as an upgrade.

In this year I have been almost completely with a great deception of the "gurus".

I have been a subscriber of of dozens of them and now I have been unsubscribing faster than a speeding bullet.

Lately, gurus have been promoting whatever garbage and crap is being launch outthere that they have become as unreliable as any other online scammer.

I don't trust online expert marketers any more.

Now if I can't have a free taste of the product first, I usually don't buy.

Probably, there are many other "buyers" out there like me.

I usually run away from those $1 trials. I don't want to give my credit card info to a product that could be crap.

I don't like being anxious because the trial period ends and I forgot to cancel the crap that I received.

I buy almost one product per month, but now I am very cautious, I have had to ask for some refunds because I didn't receive what the salesletter offered.

Think again, about not offering a freebie, unless you are a very well known and very trusted online marketer (there are very few left) and have a very good product or service, if you don't offer a freebie try you could be losing thousands of buyers.

      Sincerely,

      Antonios

    Josh,

The fundamental principle that guides human interactions in every aspect of life is the voluntary exchange of value. The more value you offer (opt-in incentive...a good one), the more value you get (an interested, targeted list).

Looking at your question from that paradigm, you're essentially asking: "How can I get people to give me value without providing any value in exchange?" You may get a few opt-ins here and there but if you're trying to build a business, you must provide value. Value in your opt-in, value in your email blasts, value in your promotions.

There's no getting around the fact; it is to human concerns as the law of conservation of energy is to physics.

Long winded enough for ya? :p

    Cheers!

You can still give away the freebie and then point to a OTO or follow up with some offer you are selling.
When people buy then they are moved to a list of buyers, and if you want after some time you could delete the people who are in the freebie list and didn't buy (but I don't think it's a good idea).

If you are just starting out, then I don't think you need to bother much about creating a product and such, just get people to subscribe and send them affiliate offers and see what happens...

The best kind of leads are buyer leads. Seek out a few people that are posting WSO's and ask them if you can offer your free product on their download page. If they say yes then you can capture the best leads know to online marketers and that is Buyer leads.

    Hope this helps.
