backlinkwatch may have gotten it's data from Yahoo Site Explorer, which is scheduled for retirement and may be behind on data updates with a skeleton crew, I still use them.

Open site explorer (seoMoz) is the other I know of.

Open Site Explorer...takes a while to update but it provides a good amount of information.

I like to use a combination of backlink checkers because no ONE tool is going show all the backlinks. That said...

    I use:

    - Open Site Explorer (get a free account)

    Open Site Explorer

    - iWebTool's Backlink Checker

    http://www.iwebtool.com/backlink_checker

    - Blue Backlinks

Open site explorer seems to be the most consistent one.

Checkout MajesticSEO . In my view it's the best statistics on backlinks by a country mile.

      https://www.majesticseo.com/

You will need to create a free account but that's a one off.

I can see backlinks building even after only a few days on a brand new site. It also keeps a historical view of all backlink so you can see how many added each month, or in the last month etc. It's a fantastic resource.

You could use Traffic Travis. It also fetches backlinks from Majestic SEO plus it has other features that you could use for SEO and competiton analysis.

  • The best ones that I've come across so far are MajesticSEO, Searchenginegenie and Webtoolhub. They all are free online tools, unlike those automated softwares that offer free trial and then ask for money. So far I like majesticseo and searchenginegenie that give comprehensive results and cover a lot of aspects.

Yahoo! Site Explorer, it's completely free, unlike Market Samurai.
