The Story of my Blogging Success and Passion for my topic (For Your Inspiration)

Hi Warriors,

This is a post about me and my blogging journey. I just want to post it up so that someone would get inspired by me and start their own blog if they have been thinking about it but not yet taken any action.

I had finished my college degree by the month of May last year. I got a job offer from an IT company, but refused it because I hated working 9-5 under a boss. During that time I was making good money in affiliate marketing and had confidence that I can make a living online. But campaigns go up and down and bidding prices for search marketing were going high and I stopped working on marketing other's products.

I wanted to do what I loved and had a passion about. So I looked into blogging as a lifestyle. I was very inspired by the Australian car blog - CarAdvice.com.au (Started 2 years back as a hobby and now grown into a company which makes 50,000 AUD/month) and it gave me a wonderful idea. I was very fond of motorcycles and I started BikeAdvice.in - A blog for review and news of Indian bikes. It is something which many youngsters are passionate about and unlike anyother country, Indian has 99% bikes and only 1% cars.

I really did a lot of work in it. I would go out to showrooms and take pictures of the bikes with my cam. I test drive the bikes myself and come back home and write about it.

On the second day I noticed that I had 22 visitors from Google search. I know some SEO, so I did optimize the article with right keywords in titles and content. I knew I was getting lucky and started posting reviews and bikes, one after another.

There was 1 blog out there which was dominating the SERPs but it was about automibles in general. That guy would blog about both cars and bikes. So I sub-divided my niche and blogged only about bikes.

After 2 weeks, the google search went to 0 and remained like that for nearly 10 days. I was not able to sleep and I literally had no future for my blog if it was not for Google. I hated Google for showing me results and then taking away for no reason.

I sent a request for reconsideration through google webmaster tools, I am not sure whether they looked into it or not, but I got my results back, better than ever. I started getting 200-300 visits per day.

Today, after 4 months. I have 1000 - 1500 Uniques, 4000-5000 hits per day, 1500 RSS readers and Alexa Traffic Rank Close to 100,000.

I am still working on optimization and monetization and planning to replace adsense with direct sponsorships.

My Goals are:

1. To have 5000 RSS readers within 6 months from now.
2. Have 10,000 uniques per day within 6 months from now.
3. To be contacted by Companies. (Reaching out!) and have them deliver the bikes to me for reviewing it! (Right now I have hard time convincing dealers to give me the bike for a test when they know I am not going to buy it).

The main message that I want to give out is that it can be really fun to start a blog about our passionate topic and forget the money part for the first few months. And just add a little bit of persistence to your blog journey. Wish you Good Luck.

    Hi Deepak,

You have a nice blog here and I can see your blog has already got google page rank 3 in such a short period of time. Would you like to share how you monetize your blog? I can see AdSense ads but is there any other possibility you may think of? May be you can sponsor some ads from your local bike dealers and charge them on monthly basis. What's in your mind?

    Thanks

Right now I am focusing on readership. I want to gain authority in the industry and when the blog is 6 months old, I will test different monetary methods.

There is a big mistake that many people make in life and business. (And I am sorry for typing up wrong goals in my thread!)

      Here is my secret:

Set goals for action and NOT for results because you cannot control results.

An Olympic runner sets goals to practice everyday for X years and not to run a 100m in X seconds.

So do not set goals like "I will make $XX,XXX in one year" or I will have X visitors/rss readers/PR etc. Instead make goals like "I will blog 3 quality posts every week". Got my point? You are in control of your actions!

Actually when I look back, it is that kind of commitment that took me to where I am now.

And I got carried away by numbers and typed in wrong goals in my thread

Need to get back to action goal setting

fantastic stuff !!! You have just inspired me . that is real good advice on goal setting . Permit me to share your words of wisdom with my list . they earn this

I see your point . You are not in control of what other people do . it is outside your circle of influence . Focus instead on what you can do . Your actions . at least you can control that .

Never applied it to goal setting . Thanks for the advice

I wish the best of success

        You have inspired me

It's good to know that you're writing about something you're passionate about. My girlfriend created a fashion blog two years ago to share her thoughts on fashion trends and to share pictures of her outfits. Now, fashion brands pay her money and give her plenty of freebies just to make her attend their events or write about their brands. She's also bagged a number of freelance gigs through her blog as well.

If you have a passion for something, something that you can't stop talking about, you should definitely making a blog about it.

Yeah, the rewards of sticking with one thing for a good time, isn't it? His blog, from what I see, is extremely common in Google for bike related searches in India. Very nicely done!

It gets some really good traffic, too! It's inside the top 2000 sites in India in Alexa.

I'd like to stress that point, that's where the real deal breaker may lie. I'm heavily focusing on a site in the gaming niche now and I could either try to milk my viewers or provide them with a 100% free deal on everything - and then go ask Coca Cola if they wish to have their banner in front of 25k Males 16-35 per month for 2 thousand bucks.

    Hi Deepak,

I saw this while searching the warrior forums for motorcycles. That's what my site/blog is all about. It's much smaller, and more catered to Canada's small motorcycle community. It's way too freakin' cold here for a lot of people to be interested in riding. Still very interesting to see a motorcycle blog that went from zero to hero. It's been a couple years since you posted this thread, care to let us know where you're at?
