Default Weight Loss Pills - Do they convert?

Hi,

I am thinking about starting my own business selling my own weight loss pills online.

I intend to do a lot of marketing as a merchant through affilaite networks.

I was just wondering if anybody has experience of this field?

I.E. Are there any affiliates who have promoted these products before? If so do they convert.

My keyword analysis suggests that there is a sufficient market (although I am wary of the key word analysis tool). Also broader market data suggests that obesity is at epidemic proportions and I have some experience which suggests that people are prepared to spend on weight loss supplements.

However I would really appreciate some fresh opinions.

Thanks a lot.

Well, you KNOW tons of people buy weight loss pills, so yes they do convert. As far as which ones, you're gonna have to test it out yourself and test out your conversion strategy. Just because something is not converting, doesn't mean it's the merchants fault, so don't forget to test out your end.

Thanks a lot for that.

In terms of testing my conversion stategy. What are we talking about here.

Different methods of marketing? PPC, CPO, SEO.

Different prices of the product?

Different web design?! Don't want to spend all the time, money and effort redesiging the website, would rather get it right the first time.

Thanks

It's a good niche but you must prepare yourself on tight competition.

Yep they sure do convert.

People in usually ALWAYS want the quickest/easiest way from point A to point B, which is a pretty good selling point.

Remember, a lot of people in that niche are lazy as hell, they don't want to exercise or diet.

As far as conversion strategy, you could offer a free trial (which I'm sure many of them do), but test out your adcopy and make sure you have a unique selling proposition that makes people want to buy from you and not your competitors.

When I say USP, the greatest one of all time was Dominos "Hot pizza in 30 minutes or less, or it's free". UPS (or maybe Fedex) had the "When it absolutely, positively has to get there"

Thanks a lot for that. I'll have to do some serious thinking about how to market the USP.

There is a book by Mark Joyner called "The Irresistible Offer" which should be required reading. Check it out at your local bookstore.

Might be hard to break into the market without "brand recognition" especially vs companies that spend BILLIONS on marketing

If you're also selling your own brand (as opposed to affiliating for someone else), I suggest you look at FDA (or whatever is relevant to you) requirements.

Been a lot of problems I believe recently with this type of product in the US regards claims made to the effectiveness of pills n stuff

Edit

Ah I see you're in the UK

Good point..however certianly in the Uk I am unaware of any natural health weight loss supplement that has massive market penetration or is a recognisable brand name.

According to the person who is formulating the pills I will not be able to sell them in the US, just the UK and Europe.

He wasn't asking whether u would sell them or not, just advice on marketing them etc

As it's not illegal to do so, then he has every right to ask!

I would check that.

Health food shops are facing big problems with the EU because it wants any natural, health-related product to be treated in the same way as medicines (i.e. years of trials, licences, the works.)

Yes Weight Loss pills or like I called them Diet Pills :P, they do convert but the competition is too big. You would need a good source where you can advertse your website to hungry people that are ready to buy...

Very true. Since these types of pills almost universally do NOT work, it's a scam-filled marketplace that has come under more scrutiny in recent years.

Well this will be the last I say on it,

however my USP will be that the pills will help to dramatically increase weight loss with absolutley no adverse side effects.

I'll let you all review my website when it is finished to get your opinions.

However the core of my business will be to offer customers a product that will add serious value to thier lives.

That is not a USP because it is exactly the same thing that everybody else says... try and make it a little more personal.

The problem you may have is you have to be very careful how you word it otherwise you'll have Trading Standards breathing down your neck. You may end up with a very hefty fine, please be careful

Cheers

can't do PPC with weight loss pills.... ESPECIALLY now after the whole google/acai berry thing going on.

CPA route is different but in order to get big mailers to mail out for you, they want a prepay before they mail.

many do weekly payments, and since the ENTIRE business runs off free trials, you'll be floating money week to week before the trials get rebilled.

Also when given the choice of your untested offer vs. a proven converting offer in the same market, who do you think they're going to send traffic to?

its a fierce niche

just somethings to think about.

Thanks for the comments,

although it appears that you can do PPC for "weight loss pills" in the Uk.

Just typed the keyword into google and lots of ads come up.

Yes you probably think you do,

The point I was making was the OP was asking for advice on how to market diet pills, not for your opinion on whether he should do so or not.

What difference does it make whether he has tried them or not. You're hijacking his thread.

It's not illegal to sell this product online as long as you keep within recognised guidelines, so whatever you think to the ethics of it is immaterial
